Will the first Mars Colonists be ROBOTS?

For tens of years, not a single man, woman or other human being has even reached the surface of the moon. And now there are multiple plans, both serious and not so serious, to even go to Mars! Robots have been there for years now, but no actual human being has ever been there yet. It's simply too hard, too risky, too costly and not enough rewarding to go to Mars.

If a human would go to Mars, he would have to pack food, water, oxygen and more for years. Ofcourse you could attempt producing food and recycling as much water/oxygen as possible, but still it'd be a lot of stuff you would need to take with you.

Now a robot wouldn't need all that stuff. A robot would be much cheaper to send in to space, because it could just generate the electricity by using solar panels/nuclear stuff. The robot also wouldn't care about morale, something humans can lack sometimes. Robots don't get weird space diseases... Robots don't need a funeral either... They can just be stripped apart for all useful pieces and then loaded onto a garbage belt... And besides, Robots could survive way better through the hostile environment on Mars.

The current robots on Mars aren't exactly super intelligent robots creating colonies. They're just some explorers, controlled from Earth and not capable of very much. Instead of Humans or those dumb bots, we could send Intelligent Robots. Artificial Intelligence is getting stronger and stronger everyday and it won't take centuries to get Artificial Intelligence to the level required for Mars Colonisation. The robots could work by themselves, but still be controlled from here, on Earth. Ofcourse they would be much more capable of creating colonies than the current Mars Explorers. These robots could produce extra versions of themselves on Mars with the materials found there and some materials from home, if some necessary components are not found on Mars.

What do you guys think of that? Personally I believe that it would be way better to have Robots prepare the colonies for Humans to come there, rather than humans having to build the colonies from scratch over there. Ofcourse that's just my personal thoughts and I wonder what you guys think of it! :-)

Interesting concept.
But the advantage of dumb robots is that a robot community with artificial intelligence smart enough to problem solve, build a community and reproduce themselves might become smart enough to decide that humans are unnecessary and even unwanted.

True, but I think that movies are exagerating a lot on that. I think it should be possible to keep the intelligence of robots within certain limits. Not too complex problem solving really doesn't have to turn into "WE DESTROY HUMAN".

And as mentioned in the post, we could make it so we, humans, could still control the robot community over there, just with a little delay... And I don't think they can suddenly construct a weapon of mass destruction in the couple minutes of delay we got...

Sure as long as only rational and honest scientists work on the project.

We could let Rep. Shultz from Florida run the program and she could hire her trusted computer tech to control the AI computers. Nothing to worry about.

good post follow me

Do you even know what honor is?

Hi there. I'm part of a curation trail for science, tech, engineering and maths. This is a good post and deserved the curation. I also upvoted your blood post below.

If you feel like putting extra effort in with research and sourcing, you could be awarded some bigger upvotes in the future. I've got your account marked to check back on later.

in the meantime, use the 'steemstem' tag for any posts dedicated to the STEM fields!

Have fun!

(I'm aware this reads like some kind of spam bot, but whatever)

Hi there. I appreciate your compliments and I thank you for upvoting my posts.

I like writing about both regular and pizza science, but I'm not sure if I want to research and source a lot... I usually just think of everything at the spot. That's mainly because I feel like my effort is going to be wasted when I don't do that. I do write some more detailed articles from time to time too though!

Sure, I'll do that :-)

Do the same!

(I'm aware of that too & "whatever" is indeed a good ending)

I vouch for @mobbs he is not a spambot :D

That's a nice thing to do. Thanks.
