eSteem Overview and Review (Android)

in #steemit7 years ago

Being new to Steemit, I was excited to see that there was a phone app interface to use since I do a lot of my article browsing and picture taking on my smartphone. I decided I would do a quick write-up on my experience with the app in the 24 hours I have been playing around with it.
(ftr I have a Google Pixel running Android 8.1.0)

The first thing that I liked initially upon opening the app is that it required you to put in your complex Steemit password. Once you have logged in once, you can change it to just require a pin or just remember you.
Once you've logged in, it brings you right to your feed.

From here, the interface is clean and straightforward. Each post has a card to represent it (so posts that include a photo are a little more aesthetically pleasing). The cards also give you all the relevant details for each post, so as you scroll through you have all the info you would have if you were browsing the web interface.
It also gives you a drop-down menu allowing you to change the sort of your feed, once again mimicking the online interface.
If you click on the banner of a card it opens up that post full screen. In this screen you get a small blue plus in the corner to expand your action options for the post (resteem, upvote, reply...). Very clean and easy UI.

Back on the main feed screen, in the upper left-hand corner you can open the side bar..

As you can see from the screenshot, this sidebar presents a nice straightforward menu, showing off some of the other functionality of Steemit. If you tap the small arrow by your name, it drops down some options for your profile (see below)

It is very simple to create a post through the app. On the main feed screen, there is the pencil button on the top bar, selecting this will bring you to the "Submit a Story" screen, and by selecting the 'advanced' switch you have all the functionality of the web interface.

Obviously this is just an overview, but hopefully I have captured the fact that the app was well-designed and offers just as much functionality as the actual Steemit website, including the ability to transfer money and see your wallets.
I honestly did not know what to expect when I downloaded the app, some of the Google Play reviews were pretty harsh. I will say once in a while it gets a little bogged down, but it always catches back up. I did not have it completely freeze or crash on me thus far. If you are looking to give Steemit some more attention throughout the day without being at your computer, this is definitely worth the download.
Shoutout to @good-karma for developing the app. Thanks!
