simple solution to the post reward divide and the balance of power -- make the voting weight more even. please be a community & give feedback
Or at the very least, make it so minnows have a vote that counts (produces revenue). or give free SP weekly to users who stay on the site and are active. Also make it easier to mine SP!
This would distribute the revenue to more users, especialy minnows and would also remove the stigma and flack that steemit is getting from the outside world with regard to accusations of ponzi scheme and not being de-centralised.
A lot of people in the outside crypto world are seeing steemit as a controlled system instead of a community controlled one
Lets face it the current model is more like a corporate business where the c.e.o.'s and the managers dictate the content and value, rather than a community or co-operative run entity.
We've all seen how some posts recieve thousands of dollars while most recieve little or nothing. the outside world is seeing this too remember! and when new users do arrive and give it a go they quickly get dis-illusioned, angry and yes jealous that some people are recieving such a large amount while they get nothing. Youve got to remember that to the majority of users, several thousands of dollars is like winning a lotto ticket or over a months wage.
I'm not saying this divide was the intention of the developers but it has appeared and it will only get worse and destroy steemit if we do not find a solution.
If you think of this like a crypto mining , it would be classed as a 51% attack. i.e. a small entitity of users (whales) control more than 51% (60% atm) then thats surely a bad thing? its not really the problem that they own the most of the revenue, but surely its an issue that they control the direction of the system. what do people think?
If steemit is a community or co-operative type system for all users then the revenue need to be distributed more evenly. Surely in a community everybody's vote should have the same weight? or at least have an effect.
I think there are several ways this could be done.
1 reduce the difference between minnows and whales voting power. at the moment if a new user or minnow votes on a post the author gets nothing. (ive been on steemit 4 months and my vote only gives 1cent sometimes)
why not make it so a minnow or new users vote at least gives some revenue, give users like myself who have been on the site several months even more power but at the same time lower the whales voting value.
or
2 give everybody the same voting power so that each vote distributes a % of the available revenue per 24hrs
3 give a weekly SP bonus to users that stay on the site and post or curate (currently users get bonus interest on their holding SP rather than interest on their loyalty)
4 make it easier for EVERY user to mine SP. surely as a cryptocurrency it should be imperitive that all users have easy access to mining. How about a mining GUI on each users steemit account. how cool would that be?
ok i realsie ther has to be an incentive for investors, but surely the incentive is the future and longevity of potential profit. the more successfull and more users on steemit then surely the more value of the crypto currency.
I also realise some posts need a lot of revenue because they are projects that do benefit steemit, i.e. websites, apps, promotion and exposure but that could be solved with a seperate 'fund me button' or those posts could have their own 'steemit promotion' section.
ive seen a few website ideas and i myself have bought some steemit related domain names and webspace (using STEEM i earned on steemit) but because im not followed by loads of whales im not getting the same funding as other projects so i dont have the funds to further some of them yet, theres many others like myself. I made the website www.howtosteemit.com tho and it is running, and it will be running for the next yr, even tho its post did not recieve much revenue over a 100 usres voted so that to me says users want the site
Also by moving the advertising, corporate, promotion type posts off the front page, new visitors would see the true communities posts from minnows on the front page. they'd see that ANYBODY can get some revenue when contributing to the community.
Also i see the new 'rewards' box with 'decline payout' if you decline where does it go? why not have a 'just for fun' or 'not for profit' or even 'give to charity'?
I love steemit and i spend most of my time on here atm and hardly go on FB now (i use to be on FB all day everyday)
However i do miss sharing things that im interested in rather than writing a post about it. sometimes ill see something hilarious on youtube so ill share it, or i find some amazing new tech im into or some music im listening to.
I'd like to be able to do that on steemit, but i would not be bothered about recieving revenue. i'd like to share some of my knowledge and information 'just for fun' to my followers. maybe by creating that option users would have another interest in steemit rather than just trying to come up with the next best post that makes them a fortune. they could still communicate with the community without necessarilly being good at writing. photography, art. business etc (give them some SP each week for being active)
Please take this post as its meant to be, these are just my opinions and ideas. im not trying to upset the apple cart. i'm trying to be a voice in a community that i would like to see successful. a community thats not just for revenue but also has a use for the better.
Please give your feedback people
peace and love :-)
Upvoting because although I disagree with you I think that the topic needs some visibility.
Frankly this bothers me...
The opposite should be true, the landing page ought by right be promoted. These are people who are paying, not for upvotes but for visibility. This is valuable real estate and frankly I can bring 1,000 real world brick and mortar businesses directly into the steem eco system to pay for ads and use SBD directly. But they need to know that this is going to translate into sales and that means people need to see it and engage with them.
You get what you earn here not what you deserve. This means you make the connections to be successful just like in real business. Treat your steemit account like a business if you want to make money off it. Otherwise blog out of love and bring your friends and family and other social network over. This place wins when it has eyeballs.
Thus far this month I've averaged a single brick and mortar business each week and I have 10 more in the pipeline, plus 5 absolutely huge announces and one project nearing it's ship date.
Make this a value proposition for these businesses and users and you will have companies driving up the price of steem just for the chance to advertise to you. We don't need more investors in this system, we need to focus on building the ecosystem. More consumers, and more real business.
Thanks for your comment. I think this topic definitely needs discussion.
steem is promoted as being a social media platform not a business venture. https://steem.io/
"Steem is a blockchain-based social media platform where anyone can earn rewards. "
watch the video, its all about 'regular' people getting paid not business ventures.
this is exactly the point im trying to raise.
steemits main claim is its a social media platform for communities where 'regular' people can get paid. currently the majority of users are not getting paid but business' and corporations are
Yeah, there are certainly a lot of opinions and ideas about how to best proceed.
My favorite is that everyone can think and share, and who knows what might get implemented.
Keep thinking and sharing!
yes, people have to remember this is a new concept and instead of jumping ship they should be thinking how they can change things for the better. unfortunately because minnows have no weight they get dis-illusioned when they cant make an instant change. i trully think even the lowest shareholder (remember they are still supporting steemit by being here) should have some influence. if not its like being at school, or working for a company where you have to appease the leaders. we came from the background of de-centralised crypto but we dont have a say. I think people would stay if they had a voting weight and recieved revenue for curating, after all not everyone is a photographer, writer, designer, promoter.
