STOP upvoting high profile Steemians! They don't need it. Give it to newer and struggling Steemians instead and help the platform grow. Please Resteem.

This is a call to everybody who loves Steemit and who wishes it to succeed. Currently the Steemit platform has problems, as many of you are aware. One of these is that it is increasingly difficult for minnows to get attention, or even break through at all on the Steemit platform.

At this moment there are some high profile users on Steemit, who surely add a lot to it's community. However due to the systems in place on Steemit, many people are upvoting these high profile users not based on their content but rather because they hope to get part of the money distributed in their high payout posts. The result is that high profile users, who perhaps 'bought in' to Steemit by purchasing Steem Power, get all the attention and income and newer Steemians get overlooked, discouraged and perhaps leave the platform. While I don't want to deny high profile Steemians their attention or income, this is simply not good nor healthy for the platform and it's long-term growth and turns Steemit into a Pay-To-Win formula.

Furthermore, upvoting high profile Steemians is far less rewarding than it may appear at first. Without owning significant Steem Power your votes will simply be worth next to zero and so will your payout be.

The solution I propose
Divert your attention to the 'New' category instead. There are a lot of new posts by new minnows that deserve some attention and encouragement. And there is good stuff in there too. Not only will these people greatly appreciate your $0.01 upvote much more than high profile Steemians who already rake in money by the hundreds, you also have a far greater chance of being rewarded yourself by the author of the post. Not only that, oftentimes these new Steemians will even start to follow you.

In the end you have to ask yourself: Wouldn't you rather give your upvotes/money/attention to somebody who could really use it and appreciate it?

My own experience so far
Ever since I have stopped upvoting high profile Steemians, and started focusing on new posts instead I have increased my Steem income, gained more followers, engaged in actual discussions (instead of people trash-commenting) and generally feel much better about my participating on this platform. I'm not even upvoting much at all currently (regaining voting power) and have started to only upvote if I really think a good point is being made. Sometimes this means I vote too soon, or too late, or whatever. I don't care anymore.. I haven't made money by upvoting anyways. I'm just treating them as old-skool likes now. Most of my income comes from commenting and the discussions I have there.

So people, please go and spread your attention around and help new Steemians get into this platform. Your $0.01 will do nothing for 10K Steem Power people, but means the world to some of our newer community members who will have the best day ever if their post makes it above $1.

I only have about 80-90 followers, so whenever I post I get very little views. Therefore this post has the potential to be overlooked and buried. If you feel like the points I make here are valid, please consider Resteeming this post if you have a lot of followers. Thanks and Steem on!

I upvoted lots of newbie's posts, now did the same. Let's be a bit socialists here to drain the swamp (:

New whales) like in Kanye's song!

I don't even look at Trending anymore. Sometimes I find a post by someone from Africa, and I make it a point to upvote them instead! Feeling much better about this all now.

Yup, I totally agree. I used to upvote whales in hopes of curation rewards, but it became pretty clear that as a minnow that really isn't worth it. Now I just upvote stuff I genuinely like. I think more people should do that

Resteem the good posts from newbies to save Steemit from exploding has been my agenda :P

In general resteems should be made easier and promoted more. BTW resteemed this post.

i do agree with what you said, it is only if there are ppl in this platform then the community will get larger, and trust me, it can have billions of users around the world

Agree, but rather than stop upvoting the high profiles, ALSO, or especially upvote NEW posts that you like.

Well, yes, if you truly believe a post by a high level Steemian is a great post that deserves attention: of course do upvote that too. But generally, the 90% of other users will take care of that already so you don't really have to usually :)

I like to browse the new posts and find interesting posts, this leads often to interesting Steemians! Possibly going to make a post about this so others can try this out (if they haven't already).

How about actually, you know, CURATING?
Quit 'gaming the system'?
Just a thought.

The curation needs to start rewarding Resteems and people who have had Snowball effect by resteeming a post should get more rewards. I know it is difficult to implement this technically but the extraordinary dev teem at Steem should be able to crack this if this issue gets enough attention.

That's what I am saying, curate smaller Steemians and engage with them

"TO each according to his need, FROM each according to his ability"
is that what you are saying?

Uhm.. I am not sure what you mean. But I think it's pretty clear what I'm saying: Vote for smalltime Steemians who produce good content and have trouble getting through, rather than throwing your upvotes away to people who already get a ton of them.

Your upvote will be worth more to the new Steemian, your action will be appreciated rather than unseen, and you end up helping this platform rather than adding to it's downfall (which only-voting-for-big-whales could do if it keeps up)

Ah, I see. No, I wasn't referring to Marx or Marxism/Communism, in that case

really? sure sounds like it.

Maybe you are projecting? Not all of us are concerned with economic politics, and may have other priorities like the well being of this platform. It's fine if you disagree. You can send your upvotes to big Steemians and support your vision if you think that one is correct.

Are you saying that big fish should curate more small fish?

YEAAAAAAhh ! Love your title ! Love your article !
People are following Hight steemiens to get more reward. But always remember, we all together, small fishes, minnows, are stronger together than a whale ;-)

Exactly.. need to stop following the herd, and make our own little circles! 👍 Let's follow eachother! I followed you! Go France, hello from Holland !

Hahaha I am from Belgium by the way & Hello Holland ! ;-)
By the way, thank you for the follow ! as you write in english I think I can get inspired by you ;-) And for you, it's time to learn french ;-) Have a good time here !

Good post! I might be quite new to this platform (5 weeks or so), but I was already starting to feel the same. To be honest, I thought the 'New' category just meant the latest posts but even if that were so, the more 'popular' bloggers would be in hot/ trending very soon.

For me it's kind of like Hollywood/ blockbuster movies. If everybody is watching them, I often ignore them. I will go to the film festivals or arthouses to watch more obscure films. If a movie is really good, I will watch it later when other people have forgotten about it.

I also prefer to spend (money) on the smaller gems that often don't make their money back at all, instead of spending more on 'entertainment', 3D glasses and an experience and story that I've usually forgotten about 5 minutes after I've left the cinema.

Good idea, right!
