From Steemit, Voice to Clarion BM, It's "Social"

On March 2nd, EOS founder BM(Daniel Larimer) updated the Clarion code of the new project in Github. According to BM, Clarion OS has just started and is in the early design stage. A development team is being formed to build the first prototype, and the project will be developed in an open environment.

According to its introduction, Clarion's goal is to provide tools for everyone in the world to spread their information to all those who want to hear their information without relying on centralized infrastructure. It will be implemented through a censorship-resistant "friend-to-friend" network, which will use unused resources of friends and family to distribute content.

Its ultimate goal is to provide the performance and reliability of "centralized service" and the freedom and independence of logically decentralized network. With the help of Clarion community, people can make friends and family get rid of the tyranny of Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Amazon, Apple and Google, and create a social network without manipulation and third-party dependence.

From a technical point of view, Clarion has learned experiences and lessons from projects including RetroShare,Hive (formerly called Steemit) and Voice, and adopted a progressive web application driven by Web Assembly in architecture design.

The core of Clarion OS is a friend-to-friend message propagation protocol, which allows the following types of message flow between encrypted identities:

1.Asynchronous person-to-person (e.g., email)
2.Real-time person-to-person (video/chat)
3.One-to-many (such as Twitter/Facebook)
4.Many-to-many (e.g. open chat room/blockchain)

With Web Assembly plug-in, it should be possible to build many different types of applications on Clarion OS, including tokens and smart contracts. The main difference between Clarion OS and the previous blockchain platform is that the basic layer does not need to reach a consensus on the "order" of user operations, nor does it need to explain the meaning of transactions. Clarion OS can be regarded as "layer 0" if the typical Ethereum and EOS smart contract is regarded as "layer 1".

As for social interaction, BM once said: Social network belongs to everyone, everyone can contribute content, and everyone has the right to comment on these contents. Social network will reward content producers while producing content, and the produced content can be searched by Google, resulting in network effect. There is no doubt that BM has social experience. In fact, there are quite a few blockchain social media from BM.

As early as 2016, BM became the social public chain Steem, and built Steemit on it.

Steemit is a decentralized social media network, which is similar to a blog that can make money. BM once said that you can't make money when writing on other blog platforms, but you can make money in steem, so many people will come to Steem to create content.

Like bitcoin miners, the author is thinking by blogging, that is, content mining. At the same time, a super-large-scale distributed system is created to consume these contents, provide funds for these contents, and form an ecology.

Steemit is really attractive, with millions of users at its peak and hundreds of thousands of new articles every day.

In mid-2017, when steemit ecology began to stabilize, BM announced his resignation on his own steemit page. Later, when I was interviewed to explain the reasons for leaving, I said that it was mainly a technical problem, and I wanted to make a more general and programmable blockchain, while Steemit was just a social application with very narrow functions, so I decided to create an ideal new system.

After Steemit left, BM became the chief technology officer of block.one During his tenure, block.one launched a social media based on EOS blockchain on June 1, 2019, and the beta version of ——Voice was ready to go online on February 24 of the following year, and then opened the invitation registration function for 23 countries. As for Voice,BM once said, do everything STEEM originally wanted to do. However, the news about Voice is still in the testing stage, and the departure of BM has cast a shadow over the development of Voice.

From Steemit to Voice, blockchain social media from BM did not finish from beginning to end. For Clarion today, we expect BM to make it have better results.
