Why do our own views count?

I am fairly new here at steemit and today I was looking through my posts to see how many views and potential votes I had, but I notice that each time I view my own posts the view count goes up. I suppose I am just wondering whether this is purposefully done or if it is a bug (known or not) that is yet to be rectified?
