Oh look, flags! It's like King's Day all over again!

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

I just got flags on this post. I'm not at all used to that anymore. Poor Piglet!

Is The Experimenttm still going on or did I offend somebody?

htooms vs. abit, I think.

Is that a thing these days?

abit surely didn't flag you for the content, so I guess it's to take out htooms influence ...

That's a "counter" flag from abitch. He counters whatever @engagement and @thecyclist upvotes. It's part of his commie "experiment."

I thought The Experimenttm had ended and had provided input to the making of a more linear reward curve. Oh well, at least it's not war, then. Or is it?

Well...technically, it is a war between abitch and anyone who defies his arbitrary demands from voters. If you don't comply with his voting thresholds, he will simply wipe out the equivalent influence of your whale vote.

So, your $4 post gets whacked...but a circle-jerking Steemit post from a scammer gets to keep the $200 and sit atop the trending page. Because "fairness."

It all makes sense now.
Still, I think The Experimenttm had its uses, but its consequences to users have become very lopsided, as not all big votes seem to be countervoted, which has lead to a new nomenclatura. Maybe The Experimenttm should be stopped. What do you think, @abit, is it still working as intended?

The Experiment TM has simply moved the voting influence down to different users. There is a slight difference in how many people are more influential now, but those at the top of the arbitrary threshold can still dominate it.

The difference is, with the current voting habits, the people who abused their delegated power previously are now some of the most influential on the platform...and they all mostly vote together...and on each other's posts. Yet again, they have found themselves able to vote each other to "riches." And if any whale tries to downvote them, they will be countered by an upvote from abit.

The ExperimentTM may have had some good intentions (I find them questionable), but the results are anything but ideal. If the system is broken, find a way to fix it at the protocol level. I am of the opinion that the system wasn't broken...it was the distribution of stake that was causing a lot of the problems. And the only way to "fix" that is to actually have those large SP holders divest their stake. If they aren't willing to do that and if changes to the code won't be made, then this is all a waste of time. The only reason it can be somewhat pulled off right now is due to the fact that the user base is very small.

If anyone decides to buy in and become a larger whale than abit, or if several people decide to be whales and actually use their earned influence, then The ExperimentTM effectively ends. I'm actually surprised to see so many of the current ones still playing along.
