I think the biggest thing holding back Steemit right now is probably how long it takes to be verified. I understand this is still very much in like a beta stage, but this is probably deterring a lot of people that try to join the community from doing so. I do think, however, with enough time and usage, Steemit will definitely be a major competitor to major social media platforms; not just Facebook, but YouTube as well! YouTube really needs a good competitor, especially after all the drama behind the 'ad-pocalypse'... I believe the rise of DTube would have LOADS of benefits for content creators.
