Engage, Encourage, Embrace: Those Are All Words Starting With 'E'(but they mean so much more)

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

Youtube wasn't built by celebrities and their following.
Normal people like us made it happen.

I'll admit it. When I hear people say, "Steemit only needs a few celebrities to show up, then they will bring a huge following and the platform will be a success," I take that shot straight to the balls.

What I imagine when someone says that famous line is something like every talented blogger here, lined up, smiling. Then someone comes along, full sprint, hand out, slapping everyone on the face as they run by.

You'll never be good enough. We need someone better. Someone who's better by default.

No

I'm not some big shot A-list personality. I don't even claim to be a D-lister. To be honest, there's a chance I could be on your shit list. That doesn't matter.

Who in the hell was Pewdiepie before Pewdiepie was Pewdiepie? Think about it.

Majority of the popular talented individuals on Youtube started out as virtual nobody's. They used the platform, they worked hard producing content everyday, and they were embraced by the community. That community didn't brush them aside while they waited for Joe Rogan's podcast and then finally start embracing the small pockets of true talent here and there. The community helped push them to the top right out of the gate.

We don't need Michio Kaku to come here and start blogging about theoretical physics before we can find success talking about string theory.

We don't need Alex Jones to come here and start screaming World War Three at the top of his lungs before we can find success at building hats made out of tinfoil.

We don't need Stephen King to come here and start writing books before we can find success as authors.

We don't need Emeril Lagasse to come here and say, "Bam," before we can find success blogging about food.

Get the point?

That's Madness

I didn't need Banksy to come here before I could be successful blogging with art.

I didn't need Bill Burr to come along and curse his head off before I was able to find success with a few comedy bits.

How many great bloggers, authors, musicians, artists and photographers have come and gone because the community felt like kicking them to the curb. How many times have people started to follow the money here and give up on the talent they could be bringing to the table.

That guy got paid for making a meme? I've been working my ass off. I'll make a meme too. Why am I not getting paid for my meme? I quit!

The people with enough talent and know-how to help build this platform one blogger at a time. The people who produce content some people might want to see. They are far more important than the fifty daily articles about a certain currency hitting a certain value or the other fifty daily articles about how great Steemit is. Those articles might look like advertisements to the general online content consumers.

What do we do when the ads come on TV? Fast forward, leave the room, take a poop, get some popcorn for the real show. When our service provider brags up the benefits of their latest, greatest offer... do we cheer?

Do you cheer when the announcer of a sporting event mentions who sponsored the next five minutes of the show? Think about these things.

It's Not About Writing Words, Sharing Pictures and Getting Paid

This is a place where the independent artists of all walks of life can finally say, "I don't need you anymore Mr. Middleman, and I don't need to meet your personal standards, Boss. I don't need to go into debt to pay for an education just to prove to you that I can write or paint either, I can just go ahead and do it."

That crucial element seems to be left out or ignored. This place is groundbreaking.

Personally, I've found success here. I'll spend hours producing the content I'd like to provide to my following. I'll spend more time attempting to push my old work out into the world as an advertisement for both this blog and the service provider. I've had success with that as well. I'm not creating promotions separately. What I do is enough to engage the audience I seek. That's how this business works.

I'm not saying all of this to promote me though. I stand tall and speak loudly for all artists and bloggers here. I don't mind being straight up and honest with everyone. I have no need to sell you snake oil. I'm good at what I do, because I'm good at what I do... and I'm not the only one. Please pay attention.

You don't know what you got until it's gone.
...and I'm sick of seeing them leave.

Steemit will never really go anywhere until Alex Jones signs up

We'll get the brand, and speak to the publicist. That's what people want, right?

I hope he comes here. I haven't seen a good ad about supplements in awhile. I miss those. :)
Yes I took a stab at Alex Jones and yes I'll hear all about it now. I had to add some sort of humor into this message. Without it, it's not me.

Keep stabbing Alex Jones until his legs drop off!

Here's something to think about. What will these folks who share the celebrity stuff(and get paid) do when the celebrity is here becoming angry about others riding their coattails?

Ironically the one celeb whose posts I would share - James Corbett - actually is on Steemit, and has said he hasn't got enough time to do many posts himself so we are welcome to share his info here.

@corbettreport

Where's his following. They didn't come. Might that be because they already have access elsewhere?

Steemit needs exclusive content to bring in content consumers. Simple stuff.

Most of those who are already established won't have time. Of course some won't mind either. Free advertising.

Then Steemit ads in the community feature. 100 people go to one community room and share the same video. Will that be a productive business model?

The other day I saw one posting after another about the price of steem. They all said the same thing. If they all go to a community, and continue posting the same thing, will it be worth it? They will be forced to blog and create something unique about the situation, or fail. Nobody is talking about that. How come? A failing business model is being encouraged. Things will change. Those who found success will flop, because they're being led by the blind.

You my friend Entertain!

Should I do a little dance now!? :)

I think that would be the only appropriate thing to do at this point! :)

Above and beyond as always!

Those were some beautifully crafted words @nonameslefttouse. The people we are waiting for are the people who we are.

I was recruited by a friend of mine. The thing that drew me here was the need to just link up with other artists and people trying to share work in the online world. You've said what I and a lot of others feel. It's nice to find a community to support one another as artists, bloggers, writers, and more.

It's going back to maximizing curation rewards though. You'll notice the same group of people consistently trend and their rewards get higher and higher with each post, while majority of people struggle to even get noticed. I'm not saying their posts are bad though. A lot of it is good. The rewards are automatic though. I'm sitting at twelve views with 456 followers. Imagine if today's post was a long, illustrated story. This reaction is heartbreaking enough. Others are guaranteed their incentive to post bigger and better things. Others lose their way attempting to emulate what's getting high pay outs, then end up quitting because they can't figure out what they did wrong.

I've been through this before on my blog where it seems nobody is looking. Reputation 70, in the top 100 trending authors for the week.... and sometimes I feel like they want me to leave.

Edit: Just adding this. The autovote services take away the incentive for people to actually come and look. There are many people out there who feel the same way but know only a few will be heard. I don't really need to be heard though. I just need a cig and everything pisses me off these days.

Wow, you've been busy this past day! My friends are throwing me a 'surprise' party...they are great at throwing awesome parties, not so great at keeping secrets.
But I wanted to stop by before I head out. This is a great article, it needs a resteem for more exposure ;)

Thanks @dreemit. It might resonate with a few people. It's not like all the others though. We'll see how it goes.
