Would you still be posting on Steemit if you knew that you won't be paid after all ?

Hello,

As i explained in another post i believe this system is flawed and unsustainable in the long run. When people will start to cash out their gains massively the economy will collapse and the posts that are being rewarded 10K and more will be worth a few cents. This system will work if everyone believes that having Steem Power is more beneficial than cashing out Steem, but as everything else in the world, nothing last forever and nothing can grow forever. Everything that goes parabolic ends up in dust. Just like the roman empire collapsed and Babylon, Steemit will collapse too. The thing is, many of the people who believed in the system and contributed will be left with nothing.

My questions is : Are you still going to post your content here if you knew that you won't be paid for it the amounts that you are seeing today ? Would you still be so enthusiastic to make 1 or 2 cts per post ?

I believe in the near future the bigger rewards for posting won't surpass 5 USD, and the average reward will be under 1 cts.

Sort:

Yes.

I have been lurking the past few weeks and just recently signed up. Any sort of reward is, and will always be, much better than what Reddit or other competing platforms can ever produce. A cent here is effectively more than what a lifetime on Reddit can yield.

It thus becomes a matter of whether the community, service and platform overall remains attractive enough for people to stick around and to make those unfamiliar with the platform curious.

Why the people post in facebook if don't get paid ?

Companies post on facebook to make money.
People post useless stuff on facebook to look cool with their friends.

exactly, do the same, post some cool stuf for your friendss and don't care about money, i preffer post here than post in facebook and give more money to Zuckenberg

This is not very social, where is my friend list ? the chat ? etc ?

So, assuming you are right, exactly when is Steem going to collapse. Predictions without time constraints are useless.

I do agree that payouts of 20k are ridiculous for a post (and there are many mediocre ones...). They are also hurting the platform in a way since many people think that's the goal, getting the jackpot and hitting it big.

However, the idea of Steemit or any decentralized minded social site in the future should be that we the users are the ones in control. You create and curate content on Twitter, Facebook, Reddit and Youtube and for what? To make the companies rich and sell you stuff?

I think rewards are a little inflated too since there are still not a lot of users but plenty of whales upvoting. It's like saying you don't make money in Youtube, well Casey Neistat does, but he is one in a million...

Youtube wasn't made in the first place to make money. Steemit is being advertised as the way to make a quick buck online. I know this platform only because one of my friends believes he's going to get very rich by posting here. I don't believe that attracting people by using their greed is a good way to launch this kind of platform.

Sure except that nobody said you will get 20k for doing a single post or get rich upvoting stuff here, but that's the reality and we agree that things like that hurt the platform.

I gave You up-vote but I do not agree with You. I just appreciate your critical thinking. This lead to debates within community. Two brains are better then one...

I'm an active poster on Reddit and also follow on Twitter. My main motive is to discuss and engage with other people on certain topics. That's still the same here. I'm just fascinated by the blockchain backend and the possibility of being rewarded as a bonus.

I still post on Reddit - the community is much larger and the content is richer there. But I hope one day Steemit matures to the point I don't need to check out Reddit.

I think the fact that there is a tangible incentive structure gives this place a huge advantage over other aggregation services. As bots start to compete with professional humans for hunting down and promoting interesting content, I think there's some huge potential for quickly aggregating high quality content, which is all I ever wanted in a news website.
