An Emergent Property of Steemit | Whale ass kissing
In the beginning Steemit was an experiment.
Whales and minnows participated simply out of curiosity to see what the experiment might yield.
The experiment was such a success that the price of Steem rocketed upward.
As a result an undesirable and unintended emergent property of the platform presented itself...
The whales happily received their butt kisses and dumped their Steem on the open market causing the price of Steem to collapse.
The 'Whale Ass Kissing' phenomenon was coming to an end.
The Steemit experiment was on the brink of collapse and everyone watched intently to see if it would explode.

That's a good idea. Would be better able to gauge the level of actual real engagement too.
EDIT: On second thought I have to ask how can a captcha be applied? Bots don't interact with the site, but rather the blockchain. I don't think captcha is feasible.
