After seeing the success that I have had on the Steemit platform my oldest son is eager and ready to start his Steemit journey
Welcome back to another vlog by you boy @mrviquez I hope you are all having a great day. As for me any day on Steemit is another blessed day!!!!! Ever since I started this Steemit journey I have encountered many great people who have invited me to become part of their projects. Each time it is a humbling experience to be included in these projects.
With that being said I know that if my oldest son joined Steemit now before it is mainstream he can possibly be set for life. I am conflicted on the subject because of his age. He is still only a child at the end of the day. I don't want him to have to deal with any evil trolls lurking on his page. I know I can't protect him forever but I feel as long as I am alive it is my duty.
Being a part of this platform could get him used to the idea of having some money. So that when he graduates high school he doesn't commit the mistake of leaving college for an average full-time job. That was my case when I left school. The idea of having more money was more appealing to me than being in school. So I dropped out of college to work full time and honestly if I had been used to having money I would have never quit school. I feel this can be the one thing that will keep him on the right path to success.
Please let me know what you guys think!!!! Is 13 too young??? Or is Steemit so great that is can be for people of any age???

I had this chat with @road2wisdom - I reckon from age 15-16 is cool. Your call Mr V man :)
I'm with you, start them young and when he's out of highschool, he can focus on enjoying life instead being a slave to the system. Mad respect!
absolutely!
My first thought that comes to mind is at the bottom of your post..16 years old...theprophet lol....I was putting lawn mowing letters in peoples mail boxes at that age...steem, crypto, and an understanding in stocks is investing in the future!
I think that whatever you decide will be a good decision. My son is also interested in steemit. But he's only 10, so he's gotta wait. As far as a 13 year old, I think as long as you make him understand that there are trolls out there, and to not take things to heart, he'll be fine. It could be a great bonding experience for you guys. But whatever you decide, I'm sure you would have thought it through because you seem like a responsible father.
I think it is a good idea to let him.
Let him use it. Let him explore it.
Let him make his first attempts at being responsible and making a living.
Just let him :D
And this goes without saying... help him grow and to stay safe. Show him how to be safe and to stay out of trouble. How to invest and how to enjoy life.
13 is no kid anymore, he is going to grow up fast. With or without you. And when he asks you to help and become part of this process its truly beautiful-
Right I totally agree, but as a parent I know it is so hard. We can't protect our kids from everything so we have to give them the tools for success. Better to give them the opportunity while they are young and you can supervise than have them go crazy at 18 because they never had any responsibility. My best advice would be that you need to monitor and supervise their content and what they are getting involved in.
You are absolutely right
There are many young people and school childrens community here on Steemit.. contact @jonathanyoung @ #steemitschool for more information.
Thanks for the tip! I've been trying to convince my kids and their friends to join - maybe this will help to know there is a community of younger people to support them! :)
Not that my opinion matters at all but I think it would be very educational, especially if he steps outside of his comfort zone reads some of the blogs. The world is front and center on this platform. Also, I truly believe the money is a bonus here, the community and the insight is far more beneficial than anything money has to offer. If he surfs the internet anyway, theres no better place to be enlightened by a community of individuals with a common goal. Good luck to you and your son my brother! Have a great day!
At 13 I'd started a business flogging costco sweets to kids at school at a discount on the tuck shop which was run by the chemistry teacher. I got a weeks detention and 200 mars bars lifted when discovered. It was my first foray into understanding that the powers that be are not interested in free enterprise, they are simply out to make sure that nobody makes a profit unless they get to extort them. Bastards. Anyway, I'm sure at 13 he is quite mature enough to deal with Steemit. Hope he makes a fortune on it, and I'll follow him if he comes here.
There are boobs on Steemit. Is he ready for that? What about the conspiracy stuff. Illuminati. Is he going to be able to take stuff with a grain of salt? You don't want him convinced that the lizard people of Planet X are coming for him.
I see your point. This is what scares me but he can see all that and worse on youtube....Did you know that you can watch full out porn on YouTube... I didn't believe it at first but my boy showed me and I was shocked
I've seen random boobs in old BMovies on You Tube, but never Porn. That's crazy.
As parents we have to teach our kids how to think not what to think. If he comes at you with "Dad, Nibiru is going to collide with Earth" take it seriously and see if you can get him to think it through. Just like you would as an adult. As for the porn, kids who are curious are going to get and find porn. Better to talk with them about the dangers of porn and its psychological and emotional repercussions. My son is 4 and I know that the day is fast approaching where I will have to deal with the same question that you are working with now. Good luck and keep us posted!
I disagree. There a boobs and illuminati all over the internet lol! At least on Steemit it's hidden by the nude filter.
I think this is the best opportunity for anyone at any age. Age does not play a factor. In my opinion, the question should rather be, how hard-working is he? That's what he will need. The grit. The determination to stay consistent at such a young age.
I say you should put him to the test.
As long as you educate him on what goes on in the comment section of post he should be fine. Plus, steemit seems like a place where trolls and negative comments don't really exist since everyone is trying to get upvotes to earn more steem. It's like a safe space for the internet. Everyone is going to be positive and love your post no matter what.
