Flew-Shot

Flew Shot is the title of my serial posts about whatever random things a g'won. From writing about blogging to promoting my podcasting career, curating music & art to writing about sociopolitical issues, I'll create one of these at least weekly, often more. I will also sometimes use specific tags and communities for these posts.

An off-grid Monday Morning.

Some things I will be blogging about more, now that I seem to be back to a regular schedule, are living #off-grid, #sustainable, #outdoors, #frugal, #thrifty, with #solarpower and near #zerowaste. I've mentioned all of this in my blog and on my podcasts many times before, my family has done a little bit of coaching and showcasing, but more so studying, practicing and learning. It's been a little less than a decade long journey towards self reliance and full on sustainability and we still have a ways to go. So far, so good; although, the old saying, "no one said it would be easy", comes to mind.

There are many families and individuals out there like us, what we're doing here is really nothing new. As a matter of fact, we consider ourselves to be modeling our lifestyles and ways after many ancient, traditional indigenous ones. And, we are certainly not the first family to bring our off-grid and sustainable lives to the decentralized web. For several years now, I have been following bloggers like @wwf @makinstuff, @jackdub, @eco-alex and @pennsif among many others. And from these incredible humans, we have learned so much. In fact, @makinstuff has a show every Saturday on @msp-waves where he shares his journey to self reliance and often interviews other super off-gridders, farmers and builders.

A few years ago, when I first discovered blockchain social networking, my family was living on, and caring for, a one acre homestead in Massachusetts called Eye Heart Organic. There, we not only grew enough organic non-gmo veggies to feed a neighborhood, we legally grew top shelf cannabis with the help of award winning cultivators from around the northeast. We began by learning how to build a healthy no-till living soil and care for the microbiome as well as the bugs. We kept chickens. We worked closely with a goat farmer and had a supply of raw dairy and meat as well as rotting guts for the soil. It was a fun and enriching experience. My only complaint, the winter weather.

Now, we live in the sunny, and rainy, state of Florida. We moved here not long before COVID. We didn't plan to stay here initially, but things seem to be working out in many aspects of our lives. We have a great arrangement with our landlord, exchanging landscaping duties for permission to live on an acre of a very flora and fauna rich piece of the Florida ecosystem. Thanks to the marsh and surrounding palms and pines, we have so much privacy, we take showers outside butt naked when it pours. It's so much fun.

We built a screened in outdoor kitchen. We use propane for cooking and making hot water. We've been researching an outdoor propane fridge, for now we use a really good bear-safe cooler. That does make it hard to be zero waste since we buy ice every couple of days, although we found a place which will sell us ice in bulk recently. We built an eight by four trailer where we installed a 290 watt solar panel and four deep cycle batteries. Right now we're in the process of shooting video and taking still shots for upcoming, unboxings and reveals. I really don't want to say much more without letting you see what's going on here.

Stay tuned...
