Whale Concerns and April Rewards
Whales, creatures of the past on Steemit?
What is the purpose of being a whale on Steemit these days if whales drain rewards from others and reduce influence of users with less Steem Power? Whales don't vote for months now due to experiment that lasts for way too long now, so why would any sane person power up more than 1mil Steem with those restrictions in place? All that voting power that can't be used. Theoretically if every whale would use 30 100% votes, reward pool pegged for 5-10k Sbd would go way beyond that. In reality only around 10 mil Steem Power all together would be enough to pay daily reward pool, what about all the rest!? I didn't calculate exact math, but I think you understand the issue there.
January, February, March, $$&?$, May.. I'll be gone till November
April was a very depressing month for users like myself and similar people in my "bracket" with 130 Steem Power and 20 Sbd earned during the whole month of April. Most of users on Steemit except Orcas and few other popular bloggers had it like that, but the rest of us were struggling. I don't mind it if I'm just a part of big group of people with similar status. But compared to previous months on steemit, April was a big downer. Due to reward pool filling up and whale experiment that lasts way too long now, at this moment in time dolphin votes are not relevant, so I don't see any issue of whales returning to vote and boost some of the low rewards for blogging this month. I imagine Orcas are quite satisfied with big money in the trending page every day. But the plebs...
I think it is time to make the rest of us on steemit smile again. I'm not gonna bitch, that is not my style, but this gif is just right for the occasion :)
Yes , with the new sistem pointles to be whale .....
I wonder how will they fix this issue in the future.
So far they push the whales to make new acounts and send voting power .
But, as I said there is way too much Steem Power that can't be used because of the small reward pool. Nothing else to do really with it other than sell it.
I think whales delegate their power to alt accounts and so they still vote just we can't tell who for. They are still voting just the hardfork made it seem like they are not.
Part of their power is delegated, but the rest just sits there.
I do miss the good old days when the whales liked me. haha. I liked the experiment. It worked for me.
I also liked the experiment, at the peak my vote gave 8 cents at 100%. Hard fork messed everything up. Now I give 2 cents, so there is a lot more time needed to fill the pool. That's 2 more months of whale voting ban and pool filling. Seems bad on paper.
yea. well, this whole thing is a big never ending experiment. Can't wait to see what comes next.
You and me both brother.
Whales got Carpal Tunnel Syndrome because of upvoting too much. So veterinarian told them to stop doing that, to rest their hands. They accepted that but then, they started to flag people and things with their decease got worse...
Or that :)
They are sleeping so that the minnows can have more effect on the reward pool. Obviously the experiment will end at some point and I'm guessing they are hoping that vests will be distributed more evenly by then.
So I don't really get the whole whining about them being gone when two months ago everyone was whining that their voting power was ineffective and the rewards were also low.
Like I said my prefork influence was 8 cents, now it is 2 cents, it's a very long process of returning to previous levels. Minnows influence now is non existent. While rewards on trending are raging. Something is off here.
Yes, but your curation rewards might've been lower considering many other whales were voting. Also the pool isn't fully filled yet I think and the price keeps increasing.
It's all a process, I get that, but the gap between top payers and lower tier is just too big atm. There needs to be some middle ground. Curation is getting better, for sure, but my primary goal and for the most of us here on steemit is to get more than a buck per day on our blogs, curation with low steem power was never good in the first place. We shall see, but as always, needs more cowbell.
interesting topic.
I guess I have been one of the lucky ones with the rewards at my personal channel as I got over a 100 dollars in total in rewards.
But I can certainly see how the whales going back to voting would be something that would benefit at least parts of the steemit community.
The issue is whether they would go back to upvoting using bots or if they would be a bit more ... picky ... this time.
Hopefully the new flatter curve that is in the works will have an good impact.
For sure, I've seen way to many great blogs with pitiful rewards. Seeing that and some huge rewards on trending feels off atm, are they really 100x better than the rest of us, fuck no to say it politely. I hope things will change.
Thanks for sharing
Have a great weekend
My vote was 2¢ before the fork. Now it rounds up to 1¢ if I am lucky. My posts are not getting much reward, either. However, I can be patient.
