A World Where Charity Don't Exist

in #steemit7 years ago

Imagine this: It’s Christmas time, and as usual, you wrote a cheque for $1,000 to be given to the orphanage you support. Brimming with a smile, you walked over to the home, hit the doorbell, and you caught yourself whistling to your favourite tune. The owner of the home peeped though the door, saw you, and she, too, smiled. And it’s a smile that you could see even in her eyes - a smile of gratefulness, a smile of joy, a smile of pure delight.

She put on her slippers and walked over to the gate to open it for you. You gave her a hug, wished her merry Christmas, and passed her the $1,000 cheque.

She looked at it for a while, smiled, thanked you, and gave the cheque back to you.

“You’re too kind. Just too kind. And every year, you supported us through the tough times, gave the children smiles, fed us when we’re down. What you've done for us, we're forever grateful.

"But this year, we’re doing ok.

“Why not give it to the home down the street?”

Puzzled? A charity home that just returned your gesture, your donation? Don’t they need money for the rainy days, the rough roads ahead, the uncertain days of tomorrow? What kind of world is this?

This, my friend, is a world a few of us have a vision for. Where charities no longer exist, because not only are each charitable organisations self-sustaining, they are profitable enough to support other causes, to reach out and create a larger, deeper, more meaningful impact.

Idealistic? Foolish endeavour? Total BS?

Can’t a man dream? To dream a dream where hand outs are an extinct gesture, where donations are only mentioned in dictionaries and history books, where charity is a dead concept.

Yesterday, @bitrocker2020 and I visited Destiny Starting Point homes in Klang, Malaysia, were we saw first hand teenage boys sent there because they either made a few mistakes that marked them as juvenile cases, or that their parents were not able to support them. Sometimes, it’s both, and often, they are from single-parent homes. They could write a little, and with some guidance, they can write better.

They can sing, for they performed in church.

With these two content creation skills (wait till someone gets them a camera), they can be active on Steemit.com. They just needed a helping hand, someone to show them the path, and the reality that it leads to. Yes, they needed a guide, a map, and a reward at the end of the path.

Show your support for them by upvoting this post.

And that’s what we want to build with the support of the Steemit Community in Malaysia.

And we need all the help we can get.

Take a look into the horizon, or up the sky at the distance. It may even help if you close your eyes and let your mind’s eye do the seeing.

If you, too, see this world - the world without charity - then let’s talk.

Wait, why's Mav posting on Steemit nowadays?

Well, unlike other blogging and social media platform, Steemit is the only platform that allows me to earn cryptocurrency when I engage with it. Yup, one Steem is about USD1, and you, too, can earn Steem Dollars every time you:

  • Create content (articles, blog posts, podcasts, videos, photos)
  • Upvote (like) other people contents
  • Comment on other people's posts
  • Have discussions, share opinions etc!

Yup, basically it's the very same thing you're doing on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc all along!

The only difference? For once you can earn a nice income on the side!

Sign up for a free Steemit account, and you can thank me by coming back and upvoting this article. And guess what, you will earn Steem too for doing that! #awesome

It will be amazing when you give them a camera, can't wait to see the world through their eyes :)

Yeap! They will need to be allowed outside the homes first though, supervised of course.

just the idea of having a platform to enable them to stand on their own two own feet is amazing! now let's get to work! :)
