What would the price of one Steem be with Bitcoin's marketcap?
With all the hype surrounding Bitcoin these days our favorite alt-coins are getting left in the dust transactions(pun intended). But lets assume Bitcoin goes to 10k per coin. Could Steem hit Bitcoin's current marketcap of 13 billion here where BTC is only 890$ . To put this in perspective, Twitter's marketcap is about 13 billion while Facebook is over 300 billion. Ned said Steem was designed to be a decentralized layer across the entire internet and it seems to be becoming just that. So given this I think a marketcap of 13 billion is chump change in the bigger picture for Steem.
Steem topped out last time at near a half a billion. So the million dollar question.... Not figuring in the fact most Steem is not liquid and counting all Steem in existence, a marketcap of 13 billion divided by the number of total Steem today (230 million now ) gives us about 56 dollars per Steem. Add the inflation over time, currently just under 10% a year giving 40 million coins per yer and tapering every year and we are still looking at over 20 dollars per coin plus there will be more coins in your wallet by then, (we hope).
But lets go even bigger, What if Steemit reaches Facebook levels of adoption and gets itself a nice 300 billion dollar marketcap? That is about 23 times a 13 billion marketcap. Or 23 bitcoin networks today.... So multiply our hypothetical Steem price of 56 dollars at Bitcoin's current marketcap of 13 billion by 23 to get what the price of one Steem would be at a 300 billion dollar marketcap. That gives us 1292 dollars per Steem. Adjusting for inflation that number could be lower say half of that at 600$ per Steem. Tell your Facebook friends to quit Facebook and join Steemit. They might just make your Steem increase in value!
Not financial advice, simply a recommendation to start blogging here!
Certainly puts visions of sugarplums in my head :) You're right in that Bitcoin going up will tend to drag alts up with it. As I write, STEEM's only a little above 15,000 satoshis but that amounts to 13.39 cents each. Better than a dime. :)
great post... i could use 600$/steem...
Very fun to think like this! To the moon...
Don't forget the inflation I mention can be mitigated through Steem Power also :0
