We are all familiar with the filtering capabilities Gmail and how well it prevents spam from plauging your inbox. Unfortunately, a new age of is subverting protections by making it seem as if your account is sending itself spam. The reports state emails are seen in inboxes that appear to be sent by you, markrd with “Me” or a very similar email address to yours as the sender. Even though the sender name is yours in that initial view upon opening the message a totally different sender, you'll notice this address has yours attached to it. Such spam is usually a mass message being distributed to an unknown number of recipients.
The phishers are so good your likely to see the messages in your sent folder too! This results in your account seeming compromised and feeling like you are the one sending these emails. The malicious sender is somehow spoofing email addresses o give of the appearance, attempting to have you click a link. Thankfullt suspicious log-in checks show that accounts do not appear to have been compromised in the traditional sense. Nonetheless it's would be prudent to delete all such emails and change your password for safety.
Google has said they are aware of the issue and are working on a fix for the situation. In the meantime be wary of any emails from yourself that you know you didn't send.
