I need some technical help.
I would like to add picture to my profile.
However I really do not know what kind of url is required.
I want my profile to look a bit more professional.
Any handy suggestions will be highly valuable.

You can upload the image to https://postimage.io/ and then use the link that appears to put in your steemit profile and that's it. Several links appear, use what ends with the extension equal to the extension in which the image file ends, for example: JPG, GIF. There are other sites where you can do the same, I hope I have helped.
