All eyes on the prize.jpg

All eyes are on the prize to get Steem into China. The recent poll conducted by Bobby Lee of BTCC and the collective enthusiasm that the Steem Community has demonstrated the formidable power the Steem community can play.

Our popular Steemians @thecryptofiend @kingscrown has certainly galvanised the community to play its part. Even go so far as paying us Steemians to vote as @bottymcbotface has done, albeit a nominal sum.

Steem is many things to many people and indeed to many people around the world. But I see that the Steem ecosystem for the time being is not yet suited for China or it could be that China is not yet ready for Steem.

China is a tough cookie to crack and from the word go Steem is already disadvantaged. The success of Steem at this early stage is dependent on its content creator to create at free will. Free will meaning anything goes!

This, I think, will unduly hamper the success of Steem in China and this is what Steem says in its white paper:

Freedom of speech is the foundation of all other liberties and any infringement upon freedom of speech undermines the only peaceful means of reaching consensus: discussion. Without free discussion voters cannot be fully informed, and uninformed voters are a greater threat to society than losing the right to vote. Censorship is a means of stealing votes through limiting public discourse. Steem is committed to enabling free speech and building a free society.

You can download and read the Steem white paper on censorship (page 42 of 44) here.

The Steem philosophy is currently at odd with the current thinking in China. Until both meet somewhere that is agreeable Steem will have a tough time conquering China.

Are we therefore focusing too much attention on China and not enough on the periphery nations. Steem is already traded in Korea on Korbit, the largest crypto exchange in Korea. Maybe we should be pushing for more exchanges in Korea to allow Steem to be traded. Maybe even in India where Steem seem to growing rapidly.

We already have a growing contingent of Korean and Indian friends on Steemit and their numbers can only get bigger. Let’s concentrate more on growing Steem in Korea and India first before going for the big one.

Tell me what you think.
