When bitcoin was first in the news I knew I had to have it.

But I didn’t know where to buy it.

I wanted to mine it but I didn’t know how.

Why wasn’t this simple from the word go!

I’m no techie but the ideas and technology interested me.

I looked and only found tech speak - a whole new language to me.

I had a day job, a family to feed and money was tight.

So my journey came to a temporary stop.

However the fire still burned inside of me.

Then 2014 Mt. Gox hit the news:

“Apparent Theft at Mt. Gox Shakes Bitcoin World”

In the The New York Times on 25 Feb 2014.

Exchanges hacked and theft around the world.

Bitcoin was being hit with negative news from all sides.

Then something much closer to home.

“Directors hunted in alleged HK$75 million bitcoin investment scam”

In the South China Morning Post on 06 March 2015.

A scam at home! and the news rekindled my interest.

Then came more news,

“Hong Kong Bitcoin exchange hacked, US$66m stolen: thieves may have exploited market closure during typhoon”

In the South China Morning Post on 03 August 2016.

A place where I could buy Bitcoin, an exchange right under my nose in my own backyard!

But could the exchange collapse like Mt. Gox?

I know there are exchanges overseas like coinbase etc. but they were over there and not here.

There were also many restrictions on joining so I gave them a pass.

I waited and waited some more, until I could wait no longer - I took the plunge and bought some Bitcoin in September 2016.

Although Bitfinex was still reeling from the hack, I still took the risk.

Still I was not satisfied with the Bitcoin I bought. I wanted MORE!

I used my Bitcoin as margin funding to earn a return but it was still not enough.

I was still hung up on mining my own bitcoins, but how.

I looked again but understanding “tech speak” does not get any easier as you get older.

I knew of crypto-mining companies but I was wary. The industry was relatively new and I didn’t understand them!

Are they a scam?

However Steemit was on my radar and my interest was pique when i listened to @dollarvigilante.

I was still on the sidelines until @marketreport began to promote it.

Signing up from then on was a no-brainer.

So what did I do in these few days since I became a Steemian?

1. I posted, I read, I commented and I voted. More importantly I followed.

2. I invested and bought Steem Power (a small amount compared to many).

3. I become an affiliate at Bitfinex, you can do the same by clicking here to join and quoting my referral code: oeHM3mM4CY.

4. My biggest achievement was to buy my first mining contract at Genesis Mining and saving a few dollars using the referral code from @craig-grant. In turn, you can have a 3% discount at Genesis Mining by quoting my referral code: UxW31v.

Since becoming a member of the Steemit community I have made great progress on my journey.

Albeit late to the game, I am now a player in the crypto world.

A new journey begins where the old one ends that leads to crypto heaven.

I heard that buying some contract from genesis or others doesn't really earned, end up you never be able to hit the ROI. Is this true?

I don't know, I am wary about mining as well so I am trying out. It will take time but my inspiration comes from following @craig-grant. I am learn a lot from him in this short time. i am trying to emulate what he is achieving and achieved. Maybe he is a good at PR but if you don't try you will not find out.

All the best!
