Calling anything a bullshit is a bullshit

Lately I ran across a few quite successful (100+ dollar value) posts where the authors claim the right to call different beliefs or occurrences a bullshit.
So let me claim the same right to and say - calling anything a bullshit is a bullshit.

It's ignorant and let me tell you why;

  • Often it is the result of you not being able to distinguish your own experience from those of other people.
    So one poster claimed that the idea one can have a spiritual experience with psychedelics is, you guessed it - bullshit. Based of course on his experience with certain drugs that were disappointingly nonspiritual. Do I even have to comment on that idea? Spirituality is highly subjective experience that nobody can really explain or define or even communicate to another being. If I am to claim I had a spiritual experience with a cheap industrial lager beer how can anyone claim it is not possible? Let alone the fact there are whole cultures and religions built on top of those "bullshit" experiences.
    At present there are over seven billion human experiences actively being lived through. If you for some reason think your experience is the only reflection of a universal cosmic truth there's name for that attitude - it is ignorant.

  • At other times it is just the result of people trying to redefine a certain word. So one poster claimed you cannot be a vegetarian because something, something, food chain this, food chain that... it is not possible.
    Let's put aside the fact that so many people consider me not eating something they eat incredibly insulting and let us talk about the nature of language instead. We as human beings create a certain concept. Then we assign a name to it so that we can implement the concept into this verbal world of ours. After some time there is a general consensus about the meaning. So your attempt to semantically deconstruct a certain word is as valuable as you trying to attack Bitcoin network with 0.00005 percent of hash power. Regardless of how much much emotional investment you put into that effort. It's just funny and, of course, ignorant.

  • And then we come to the funniest group of them all. There are people around who just don't believe stuff, regardless of all the signs suggesting they are the ones that might be wrong, and not the rest of the world. Sort of a flat-Earther approach to real-world problems. Recently I've seen a post from a guy that thinks technical analysis in trading of digital assets is... wait for it... a bullshit.
    Regardless of the fact that there are people who make living teaching technical analysis, doing technical trading, making platforms for technical analysis, writing books about technical analysis, making algorithms for automatized trading based on technical analysis... There are university courses for technical analysis, there are libraries of books on that subject. But this guy dismissed it all as - simple gambling. All the examples are ignorant on some level, but this one... it is just plain old ignorant.

And of course it goes without saying that calling things bullshit is the privilege of fellows with hefty Steem power to back their claims. Minnows are all glazed with sugary politeness and acceptance of everybody's opinions - feeling the very real danger of flag-vengeance.

That is not the sort of platform I want to be a part of so, excuse my minnowness and let me say this - don't be so fast to pull the bullshit card. For one thing it might be you that is wrong. And for other - if you want to convince people something, then using the B-word is really wrong - it's just digging of the ideological trenches.

I completely agree with this.

It's one thing to engage in a civil debate about something, backing up your claims with (actual) evidence and peer-reviewed cases.

It's another to just turn a deaf ear and blindly call something bullshit simply because you disagree.
