Steemit Etiquette

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

It's absolutely amazing how well behaved everybody is here on Steemit, it's a huge milestone in the evolution of the internet.

Did you see any vulgarity or profanities, bullying or harassment ... anywhere?

It's very real and really significant! Rude and sometimes downright abusive online behavior on social media platforms is a problem. And while they all have their own ways to try and fight it ... none of them has ever succeeded, they're all going the wrong way about it.

While the incentives, and the down flag do the trick on Steemit.

The result of it is a very civilized culture of respect and etiquette.

It should be headline news all around the world!

Sort:

Hopefully more people will continue to learn non-violent communication techniques instead of judgmental language while claiming to know the motives of others.

too bad you're not one of those people ... with all your lies and excuses to promote theft and abuse, disrespecting facts and other people's property

let's hope that corrupt, lying cheating frauds like you do get hit in the face ... that would actually make this world a better place

as you're obviously a complete corrupt, untrustworthy miserable piece of shit

You don't know me and yet you've made quite a few inflammatory claims here.

it's not about you, it's about all the lies you're spewing to have an excuse to steal ... you're not civilized; you're a thug ... that's the problem!

Is Milo on SteemIt? He should be.

well, maybe he figures that as a professional troll, he's not going to make any money here ;-)

You bet he will :-) He's an intelligent civilized troll who actually just trolls back. I'm sure he will come here soon.

sure, I'm just joking a bit

i love the civilized discourse i find here. there is some abuse of the flag but, more often than not it is accurately applied. go steemians!

it's like 98% thanks of the upvotes and 2% thanks to the downvotes

but no matter what; the result is there and I'm impressed!

It's a small community, thus "so far so good". I think it can change a bit if the userbase explodes, although flagging will do the trick. I suspect the problem will then be about proper flag use and abuse.

sure, there will always be some, but compared to what's normal on other platform, it's really insignificant here, which makes the difference so significant

It wasn't so bad on USENET back in the day, outside a few newsgroups.

Hopefully the system will work to disincentivize bad behavior, but I wouldn't consider the issue settled yet. The initial participants make a difference.

well, let's hope it's in fact settled ... mostly :)

We all await the presence of Saint Nero.

There have been some harassment and bullying here on Steemit but not to the extent that they jeopardize the whole community members and Steemit itself. Isolated cases. But overall, I believe people in Steemit have behaved properly.

I have made a series of Steemit Etiquette blog posts. Vulgarity and profanity is in fact next on my list.

If you have time, here's my latest on this series.
