PROLIFERATE or PERISH - Social connections necessary for growth

THE NEED FOR SOCIAL PROLIFERATION

Like many of you I've been combing through the posts on Steem contemplating what will become of this site or how much of my portfolio should I invest in Steem Power. The rapid growth seen thus far is inspiring and it's tough not to be caught in the excitement.

At first glance there may be little to no rhyme or reason to what makes a successful post or how someone might actually get $30,000 for a tutorial on how to put on makeup, but I assure you nothing could be further from the truth. To illustrate the point I offer this explanation (right after this gratuitous picture of a lobster on a half naked woman).

In its infancy, any great idea needs to proliferate, and do it rapidly.

Without this rapid expansion any idea in the digital age is almost certain to fail.

Consider your life today versus 5 years ago. You are most likely busier, much busier. In fact there are very few places you can go today and not be connected. This irony here is that I'm writing this post on a plane that does not have WiFi, but the time when all planes do is fast approaching.

So when we do have a free moment we tend to fill that empty space in our lives between social engagements or meetings with time on our smartphones, or some other form of almost instant social gratification.

The places we spend this time have been those that foster the social conversation and allow us to consume content at a blistering pace. Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn and Twitter are all examples of this. So when a post whose content is seemingly useless in substance, offers the potential to bridge the gap between social platforms, it automatically escalates in value, and does so rapidly. It does so because of its potential contribution toward the proliferation of Steem.

This is not only true on Steem, but everything else as well. If Steem is going to expand beyond the cult following it enjoys today to become mainstream, it must proliferate and do it in a big way. The competition for mental shelf space in our lives is only increasing.

If you have not done so already, I would encourage you to link your Steemit profile, to the other social platforms you use. In doing so, you just may catch the attention of a whale.
