[Текст на српском] Steemit beginners who want to read the orientation guide on the platform are likely to be quickly disappointed. Even if they know English. In fact, publishing texts at Steemit is no more complicated than sending emails — except for tags, keywords, that is!

Key words (tags) are the most common categories under which your post belongs, in order to ease a search for the desired content. Up to five tags can be set, all must be typed in lowercase, and separated by spaces only, with no punctuation marks.

The first tag is the most important because it can not be changed. Make sure it is written correctly and that it describes the category to which your text naturally belongs. It is desirable to set this tag in such a way that it is “targeted” by as many people as possible. How will we determine it? Easy!

Go to the main page of the Steemit by clicking on the Steemit logo in the upper left corner, or on some of the tabs trending, new, hot, or promoted. Depending on the browser preferences you use, you will see the list of tags on the left side, or at the top right of the page, a search-by-tag box that says All tags. Clicking on this box will open a list of tags ranked in the order of interest — the most wanted ones are, of course, at the very top.

Now, search among the most wanted tags those that match the topic of your post and carefully copy them into the space provided for the tags below the content area of your post page.

If you have dilemmas about the keywords, you can use the Steemistry, tag analysis tool which is developed by @followbtcnews and @crimsonclad. Keep in mind that the development means numerous downtime and that the analysis can take quite a long time, since it means searching the entire Steemit blockchain…

More than five tags? Yes we can, but…

Steemit has a maximum of five tags limit. It would be desirable to fill out all five, although even those five can be too much for the new users. Do not let tagging be a hassle to you, as this will make it easier for other users to reach your content.

But what if we want more than five keywords? What if we have bilingual text and need tags in both languages? The solution is to use a Steemit platform called SteepShot. This platform is an outstanding clone of Instagram, but unlike it, SteepShot pays for posting, to its users. I have not yet found information on exactly how many keywords can be set in it, but definitely more than five. Try it out :)

Warning: Do not use “false” tags, because you can be punished!

If, for example, your text has nothing to do with Steemit and you put the tag “steemit”, cheated users can report you to @steemcleaners service, and then follows a penalty. Whatever it is, it is never pleasant, so I would not advise you to provoke the patience of community members.

Searching

Unfortunately, the weakest points of the Steemit are navigation and searching. When several thousand of your or resteemed texts are gathered in your blog, it is no longer possible to manually reach a certain text within a reasonable time. Search through the toolbar from the cover page of the Stimit…

…looks like a shotgun hit: too many unwanted results that cannot be reduced to a reasonable frame.

This is an extremely good opportunity for developers to stand out by creating a useful tool for keyword search. Currently, for these purposes, the most commonly used is Steemit Tag Search tool by Kasper Fredenslund — @kasperfred. The program was created after @papa-pepper promised a SBD500 prize to the first developer who make a useful search program. The program has been updated several times but still is without advanced search options.

Four months ago Fredenslund has opened the source code and enabled all interested parties to improve this program. Unfortunately, instead of improvements, we can only conclude that the maintenance of this tool has stopped and it's usability at this moment is very debatable.
