Flagging Wars

in #steemit8 years ago

I didn’t intend to take part in a hot flagging war that started between a few whales and good number of esteemed members of Steemit community, but I can’t look quietly at this self-destruction of a very good idea.

Now, I have two simple suggestions that could end this fruitless war that is going very, very bad way.

  1. The only power whales should have, is the power to prevent malicious trolls to do harm to other Steemit members. That way, whales should start acting like guardians of community. It is in their interest, because their stake in Steemit can grow only if the community grows. Whales should stop judging on contents – that is a job for all community. If bots are problem, then they should be regulated with separate rules (ie. upvote would not be possible without opening content, so number of views never could be lesser than number of upvotes).

  2. Every member should have flag statistics. And if someone never used a flagging action, then nobody can flag him. If someone delivers 100 flags, then he can recieve a 100 flags.

I don't know if @dan and @ned have final word on this issue, but it would be nice of you who agree with this simple suggestion, to spread the word.

Good luck to all of you who want Steemit to prosper.

One problem with point number 2. If member xyz has never flagged anybody, and therefore cannot be flagged...then what is to stop said member from posting bad content, such as porn? If he/she cannot be flagged then they have nothing to lose.

I would rather have full freedom at the price of a few porn-trolls, instead of hidden censorship with the destruction of the platform in perspective.

I agree with you on that. Perhaps there should be an option to block a users content from your feed.

Click on a name, there is a "MUTE" button.

Porn is not always bad ;)

Whales should stop judging on contents – that is a job for all community.

Voting power should be equal, no matter your Steem Power. This way, "whales" could flag or upvote how they want and nobody would care.

number of views never could be lesser than number of upvotes

I like this also.

If bots are problem

I'm new here, and I really don't understand why even allow for bots, in a place (Steem) that should be quality-oriented, a place where plagiarism should be forbidden.

Not to mention whale-bots o_O

ie. upvote would not be possible without opening content

What you are describing is technically impossible.

Why would be technically impossible to remove upvote button from the list of posts?

It's not, but that's a different matter.

People can vote without visiting Steemit.com web site. There are other UI's running on the same Steem blockchain back end, E.G. busy.org, eSteem mobile app and etc.
