I posted an issue on the github about the serious issue of the lack of user-customised filtering on the website interface. It has yielded fruit. This change is now in the pipe and given it is approved by the website app developers, this could have a massive impact on the site as regards to making it more accessible to us little minnows. We still have a stake, even if it is freely given, because the developer realise that at the centre of an organisation is effective communication. This confirmation is immensely pleasing to me. I have been involved in online forums for years. This improvement implements an essential feature, that stopped me dumping Facebook sooner. I am glad I did anyway.

It is intended to hide. Mute should be leaving out top-level posts on all feeds. It should be hiding comments too. I'll have a look this could use some more testing.

I think this fixes it.. A bug prevented the comments from being hidden. Now, the feeds (new, trending, etc) and comments hide someone if they are muted. You can still go to a muted user's page to see all their activity. This has not been deployed yet...

Fantastic. Thankyou for the work you are doing. I think the website sits at the head of the spear, in pushing for gaining userbase and investment. I am absolutely ecstatic that something is being done. I will keep working on my own project to make a nice, clean, fast interface for linux users, but what is done with the website will have far more effect on the ecosystem at this point. There is mobile apps in the pipeline, and they will naturally conform to the website. So this is wonderful news to me.
