Ability to Add Our Own STEEM to Post Rewards

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

This Should Be Seriously Considered ..

@free2play posted an idea that I believe should be looked at by @dantheman, as it seems it would yield great benefit. LINK to the original post which includes some preliminary discussion.

The Idea

Allow authors, and anyone who may wish to, the ability to add their own $$, in the form of STEEM, to the total content reward of any given post. For example, you write an article describing a project you wish to launch - your goal is to create some excitement, exposure, to hit the trending page, to provide greater curation rewards to those who read your post, and support what you have presented!

You believe it is worth while to invest $ 50.00 and in the process you wish to give yourself $50.00 worth of STEEMPower, so you purchase $100 worth of STEEM and you add it to the post reward, directly. After the curation period ends, you will have half of your investment returned to you - potentially more, depending on how much support the community gives to your post in the form of upvotes, which adding more to the post total reward.

This is 'not' an upvote per say, but rather a direct investment in the post itself.

The same math would still apply ..

Benefits:

Basically it allows any STEEMIAN the ability to temporarily behave like Whales, and to have similar impact on the reward outcomes of posts. A good portion of what they 'invest' in the post, in order to promote its content, will go to the curators who engage with the material in the traditional weighted upvote manner.

All the complaints of imbalance and unfairness, due to the existence of Whales would instantly be negated with this option.

Problems?

Honestly I do not see any. The fact is, the STEEM being used to invest in the post is already in the possession of the individual choosing to use it in this manner. It is not a 'drain' on rewards in any way, but rather a massive boost to them. This is far superior to Post Promotion, as it exists today .. I have no bloody idea how 'Promotion' works, nor have I seen results that have given the author or curators any real benefit - in my experience, the small amount that I have spent promoting posts has been entirely wasted.

Sort:

lol .. well, that's true enough haha

Yeah, as soon as this "deposit info" hits the blockchain it will be an invitation for rewards. Pretty much as the promotion works now though, don't think I am the only one that thought about that :)

But generally I like the idea better than the current promotion idea. I don't like having another tab for promoted post, this would put it in the same feed as everything else..

This post has been ranked within the top 80 most undervalued posts in the first half of Jan 10. We estimate that this post is undervalued by $4.60 as compared to a scenario in which every voter had an equal say.

See the full rankings and details in The Daily Tribune: Jan 10 - Part I. You can also read about some of our methodology, data analysis and technical details in our initial post.

This is a very interesting idea, thank you for posting.

There was a discussion about ( just the proposal was to use SBD, not Steem) and it looks like this solution is gameable
https://github.com/steemit/steem/issues/493

From the "discussion" ... which let's face it wasn't much of one at all .. "hence a tipper could purchase a high-ranked spot on Trending"

I do not see a problem with this, this is something that Whales do all the time, moving posts to 'Trending'. Perhaps someone who wishes to inject $ into the system instead of building up a great deal of STEEMPower should not have the right to do so .. that's a different argument, but for me it begins to approach a freedom of speech issue. ;-)

With this proposal, it would not matter if you wanted to use STEEM or SBD, interally, or even BTC & ETH via Blocktrades if it could be wired up - one day, hopefully, using a credit card branded debit card! :) You are moving whatever is worth anything, to the post rewards in the equivalent of USD as is now reflected in the post reward balance.

Yes, I also was not convinsed with arguments given. And I also do think that ability to be a whale for one day, do it this or that way, is essential for mass adoption of the platform.
The real issue seem to be just lack of money for proper development above just some very basic features.

You sir, are then a very wise man indeed! Help resurrect the idea!
