Steemit = Sports and Porn?
Is this a window into the future of what Steemit.com will stay and become more of?
This represents what is popular on Steemit, that we give visibility to and reward/value the most. In effect, it reflects and represents the community at large.
I think Facebook is quite safe and in absolutely no danger in that case...

I find it interesting that there is much talk about how great it is that Steemit is uncensored, decentralized etc etc but when it come to certain subcultures using the site, people start talking about changing the algorithm or muting or unfollowing etc etc. Seems a bit of a paradox to me.
It's not about censoring this content, but not rewarding it the most.
I find it interesting how people conflate and confuse censorship of information, knowledge, with censorship of video content, like porn. HUGE difference.
What is the difference? If I decided that I don't like something and try to eliminate it from steemit, for all intents and purposes THAT is censorship, is it not? I'm not saying I'm for or against anything, it just amuses me that everyone wants freedom to express until that which is expressed is not to one's liking then people seek to exclude (censor).
So?
It's still censorship, and we can either be consistent, or we can pick and choose.
But if the person picking ends up picking something you like, won't that be troublesome?
It is the future of steemit. Sadly.
Sure you can mute people. Shouldn't have to for these reasons.
Who was it that said
"it takes an intelligent person to NOT make money".
I definitely hope that this Porn thing goes to other tab or site with a proper login. Guess that can make steem to be valued, but I don't want to show steemit "new" or "home" page to others and got surprised with that kind of content... That doesn't make steemit page to be a serious one, or decent to show it to my friends!
This makes me very sad... I am not looking anymore to the trending page for this reason. I believe that the algorithm behind the trending page should be modified to illustrate the variety of articles available on steemit.
Amazing! Many people talk about the Steemit community. When a person makes suggestions to improve the image of the community, he is answered: does the mute button or unfollow. Bravo!
I'm glad you posted this. I have voted twice, I think, on a sports post. In my defence, one of those votes was casted inadvertantly, however, I did vote for the erotic post in your screenshot. I pondered greatly on the latter but voted anyway because I felt it to be erotica and not porn. Having said all thatness, we really must be conscientious of our votes and the responsibilities assumed therein. Myself most definitely included.
Thank you once more for saying what needed to be said.
Peace and many smiles,
AR
I'm not opposed to the sports betting. It's free money. And they give it back to the community.
Sports betting on steemit is not going to be the catalyst that ruins the platform.
I am more opposed to the porn as well. Not that I'm a prude, but there are already plenty of places to access that already.
People do the sports crap
because they can gamble with the rewards that are supposed to go to posts.
The sports are harmless, and actually quite useful: sports gambling is a huge market, it's completely moral, and it's a lot of fun to a lot of people (though I'm not one of them). I welcome their transactions to our economy.
As for porn, it's certainly an economic driver no doubt, but it's also good I think to decentralize porn. Porn is largely controlled and subverted by extremely dark occult agendas, and I say the more we take it out of their hands and put it into places they can't control, the better off we'll be. There's nothing inherently wrong with porn, but much of it that exists today is created to spread dark agendas, and that's no good. The people who post porn on steem are increasingly posting other content along with it, even if it's just random stories from their own lives, and I think it is good for people who consume porn to be able to sympathize and empathize with the content creators. I also think that a great deal of good can come from decentralizing the economics of porn, especially if we can get replace some of the dollars (dark occult money) in porn with STEEM.
There's mute, you can unfollow, if it's marked NSFW or has SPORTS in the title, you don't have to click on it.
A censorship free platform means you may not like what the other guys post. Nobody is making you read it, vote for it, or share it. I don't get it.
I think the deeper issue is people who are writing top quality posts about science, arts, life will have to compete with boobs.
Already I see copy and pasted boobs making rewards while hearts and souls spilled on to the screen make pennies.
This platform is for making money any way possible. It's like the American country in one website.
the average person does not care about "top quality posts about science, arts"
Thank you very much for this post! Today I visited accidentally the blog entry of @denvermax. The main problem I see is the value (in form of author rewards), that is given to the content by our community. And we dont have 1 people 1 vote priciple but weighted by SP. Ok, that's the rule. So if the whales vote this porn content much higher than other they have to know what they do especially to the other content writers. If the trend continues many excellent writers will be frustrated and will stop writing. I hope the whales vote wisely in future.
