‘Hire slow, fire faster’ is based on the idea that you want to build a strong, stable team and you're more likely to do that by hiring people slowly and firing them quickly once they've proven themselves unfit for the job.

In theory, no one wants to hire the incorrect candidate, but in practice it’ll typically take longer to find out if you’ve hired the wrong person than it will to correct your hiring mistake. And when managers parroting out the ‘hire slowly, fire quickly’ advice without understanding the key principals behind it, they're much more likely to screw up.
