About science being public or not : I often try to go directly to the sources, to check various claims based on poplular science,from mainstream media,or alternative or fringe media. I very often hit a brick wall then,all I get is an abstract. So what does available to the public mean? THere is an open science movement,but it is just getting started. We are being held back in terms of technological innovation by patents and proprietary sofwtware and hardware as well.
Making science open on all fronts would greatly accelerate innovation,and help us solve many problems that humanity is facing,like global warming,and bring us to a post-scarcity society.
