It's been a strange World Cup so far. We are into day 4 and had seen some of the best teams in the world faltered.

Argentina 1 - 1 Iceland

Boasting the best player in the world, Lionel Messi, Argentina are expected to cruise past Iceland, which was made up of some part time players. Instead, they were held to a draw by the minnow country, who were making their first appearance in the Fifa World Cup. Some may argue that Iceland were not playing football by being ultra defensive. But that was their strategy, and it proved so efficient in keeping the best player out of action. Messi even had the opportunity to miss a penalty kick.

Best player in the world? Try harder in the next round.

Germany 0 - 1 Mexico

The defending champion Germany lost to a south american team. Fans around the world had high hopes on Germany retaining the trophy. Many expected them to have a winning march towards the final. Instead, they couldn't find a way past Mexico and was condemned to a humiliating defeat. Mexico played really well in this match, finding lots of room to attack, especially around the German full backs. Germany needs to get their backs and wings sorted out before the next match to have a chance of progressing. Their next game is against Sweden, who knocked out both Netherlands and Italy in the qualifying round.

Germany. Wake up your idea and start playing like Germany.

Portugal 3 -3 Spain

The match of the tournament so far. 2 of the best teams in Europe played to an exciting draw. However, Spain was supposedly the hot favourites for the tournament (together with Brazil and Germany), but couldn't hold on to their lead and had no answer to Christiano Ronaldo goal scoring form. World Cup 2018 will probably be Ronaldo's last World Cup and he made every fans aware that he is still in his peak. First winning and converted the penalty himself, Ronaldo went on to score 2 more goals, including a sublime free kick that left De Gea, arguably the best keeper in the world right now, no chance at all.

Portugal or Spain to progress further? CR7 will lead the way

Brazil 1(?) - 1 Switzerland

And as I am writing this post, Brazil and Switzerland are playing towards a 1 - 1 draw (now at 85 minutes).

Strange World Cup indeed. Maybe this year is England's turn to shine. Let's find out tomorrow.
