London Green Park next to Buckingham Palace

in #steemit7 years ago

In the early morning of a late September day in London, walking in Green Park next to Buckingham Palace, you can smell the the mixture of trees, grass, leaves, rain, air, and buzzing city.  Little rain droplets were flying in the sky, all around you, following the path where you just walked.  I had an umbrella, but I kept it in my bag. I rather walking in the middle of nature and the rain, thinking to give myself an opportunity of living in real nature, and forgetting about sitting in front of my computer, looking at two monitor screens, and locking myself inside the office building all day.

The green park was built long time by King Charles II in 1660.  When his wife, Queen Catherine, found out King Charles often picked up flowers and gave them to other mistresses, she gave an order to dig out all flowerbeds.  So you will not see any flowers in this park, hence the name Green Park.  The only flowers you can only see in this park are yellow or white daffodils.  The botanic name of daffodil is narcissus, meaning a person who is self-involved, the story being about a hunter who fell in love with the beauty of his own reflection.  However, in the summer of every year, the flower beds are so beautiful in front of the Buckingham Palace. What a contrasting scene!

In the 1820, the famous British architect John Nash re-designed Green Park and more trees were planted.  There are memorials to remember soldiers who died in the two world wars at the corners next to Hyde Park corner.

You know where you have the back of the Ritz Hotel by the Green Park entrance by the tube. Next door to the Ritz they now own the building called the William Kent House. William Kent House used to be the home for Prime Minister`s before Downing Street was built. The stairwell is exactly the same as the one at 10 Downing Street.
