London Albert Memorial at Kensington Gardens

in #steemit7 years ago

The Albert Memorial, one of the most ornate monuments in London, was built in 1872.  Prince Albert and Queen Victoria, The status is at Kensington Gardens and viewed as one of the grandest Victorian gothic architecture.  This memorial shows Prince Albert holding the catalogue of the Great Exhibition in 1851, which he helped and organised.  Europe, Africa, Asia, and America are represented by white marble figures at 4 corners.  Queen Victoria and Prince Albert (from Germany) fell in love at first sight and married for 17 years, they had four boys and five girls.  After Prince Albert died of fever at age of 42, Queen Victoria wore black mourning for him for the rest 40 years, and only appeared in public rarely.  She always kept him by her side, and put a photo to the bed headboard after he died.
