Jealousy on Steem and How to Overcome It
Hi my friend, welcome back to another video with myself, @kenmelendez. I'd like to take a moment and share some genuine thoughts with you regarding jealousy on Steem.
Have you ever felt down, depressed, or frustrated when you look at others content on @dtube, @dlive, or Steemit?
Have you experienced a sense of jealousy, or perhaps even anger, upon the sight of someone else succeeding when you are not succeeding to the level you want to be?
I bring this up because I am right there with you. I've been there. It is a natural human tendency to have these feelings. One of the reasons why you might be experiencing them is because you are dedicated and passionate about what you do and you want to see results.
This isn't in the video, but I think back to when my wife and I were trying for our first child. It took around 3 years for us to conceive. Meanwhile, my wife felt depressed, frustrated, angry, and would feel jealous at the site of another close friend getting pregnant when she was not.
The reason these feelings came up for her, was because she was so passionate and determined to have a child, that the mere idea of someone else having one before her was like a thorn in her side.
I imagine it is the same for you. You love what you do and want to make your mark on the Steem community. But jealousy and rage are not the emotions you want to foster.
Great, Ken. So how do I overcome these feelings?
Here's the cure...
Understand, that the emotions you are harvesting right now are negative. But, the positive thing about them is that they create a strong energy inside of you.
What we need to do now, is to take that energy, and transform it into positive energy.
To apply that practically, pay attention to the following advice. The next time you start to think that thought and feel that feeling of jealousy towards another Steemian, I want you to immediately turn that energy around and bless that person.
Blessing that person can be in the form of an upvote, a comment, a resteem, or a congratulatory message on Discord.
Or, if you want to take it a step further, you can actually create a post, recognizing that person and lifting them up to your audience.
You might be thinking...but Ken, I don't feel like doing that when I see others succeeding.
I know you don't, neither do I. But, the sooner you turn those negative feelings around, instead of letting them fester, the easier it is to proceed with the positive action.
What are the results of doing this?
The best result of all, is that you will be free from the negative emotion that can not only halt your progress, but could stop you dead in your tracks. This will allow you to then explode your blog with top-notch content that will blow your followers away.
The other result is that you edify another Steemian, as well as build connections with them and their audience. You honestly never know what could result from one tiny random act of kindness.
Keep in mind, there is more than enough Steem to go around. There is no shortage of success, and there is no shortage of Steem. Keep doing what you are doing by pumping out incredible content, and watch what happens.
I'm so glad to be on this journey with you and can't wait to hear what you think about this topic.
Leave your comments below and let's keep this conversation flowing.
Love you friend, can't wait to see you again. Until next time, remember...YOU ARE STILL AWESOME!

Very interesting post. I think we all feel that way sometimes. Especially with all of the new users coming onto the platform and the difficulty in getting your content seen. It can be a struggle. Your advice to turn the negativity around and make it a positive is really good. Thanks for this post!
As a new user, I'm frustrated that my content isn't seen. I mean, that I post a garbage post, where I'm learning how to post and write "do not upvote" but it gets $1.50 from random people wanting to turn a profit, and yet when i post something i find meaningful it gets $0 until I pay for votes.
Ken, i dont mean to be critical, since I like your work, but looking at your content, you have many posrs that are very good, with very low payouts, but others, such as this one, that are also good but have huge payouts due to paid votes. Don't you feel frustrated, as if nobody is reading your work? It makes me not want to participate feeling that the only people reading my work are bots that are assessing the financial viability of my work.
Right now I've written 5 posts that I'm saving on my computer... I'm not going to post then until I can buy steem to use to pay for upvotes. I'm hopeful that these will become something bigger, but i fear that they will go unnoticed unless i pay for their to be promoted.
I get the sense that this is how this site works for now, but I hope that in the future we have enough content that our work has non-bot audiences.
it takes a lot of time and effort to gain a following.. my best recommendation is to comment a LOT on posts that you really like or are on a similar theme to yours.. make some friends.. as that is the best way to get a following and more regular upvotes.. These days the big votes are hard to get though.. with SO many users and so few whales voting for free that is a hard challenge,, yes!
I hear you and I feel the same way sometimes. The other thing I have to think about though is even when I do get a bigger following are people going to be upvoting my content because they like it or because they think it will be a quick payday. I guess it depends on why you are ultimately here. I don't disagree with you though. I wasted some really good content at the beginning because I figured go big or go home. I wish I could post that content now that I have 700+ followers to see if it could have done better. As a new user upvote bots are just a fact of life I fear.
I'm a compulsive creator so I always have content. Unfortunately, it is often less than polished so to post it, either on YouTube, Steemit, or elsewhere, I need to take the time and effort to clean it up. (It is this final polish that is tedious and which I hope to be compensated for.) I just concerns me some that on steemit, even if I'm compensated for the work, I'm not going to have an audience. A few times in my life I've given professional scientific talks in huge auditoriums with no more than 3-4 of the seats occupied. Doing this really feels awful, since it suggest that nobody is interested in my life's work.
I'm going to keep plugging away and I hope that in the next 6 months or so I'm where you are, with a nice following.
Can I ask, did you build everything from scratch or did you buy steem to start?
I have built everything from scratch. I wanted the process to be as organic as possible. Plus when I started STEEM was around $6, so that would have been a kick in the groin now :) It has been hard though, and I am no where near where I would like to be or where others are. I am only here by the grace of a single random whale upvote, a couple of Curie's and a small handful of people that believe in me. I have a feeling the majority of my followers are not active accounts. It is hard to say though. Good luck to you!
I was the exact same. And then my time came!!
@spbeckman...I can feel your frustration coming through in your comment. A good thing to do to get noticed and build a following is to post on DTube, DLive, or DSound. These apps are upvoting quality content from users like you and I which will give you more exposure as well as compensation.
I actually discovered DTube before Steemit. I was looking for a better platform than YouTube. I posted my first video on DTube and within 2 days it wouldn't load. I'm hopeful that these issues with DTube will be fixed in the next couple of months and I can migrate to it. Right now I'm still usung YouTube for hosting the videos and writing my blog, linking to the videos, on Steemit. (I have three videos edited and ready to post next week along with the blog content.) I'd also consider BitChute, but right now BitChute isn't allowing embedded video the way YouTube does.
My frustration will dissipate. When I imagine a utopian society I'm disappointed when it falls short. As I learn to accept it, pragmatically as a "real" non-utopian society, I often begin to love it inspite of, or even because of, its faults.
@bozz I’m glad we share the same type of thinking when it comes to this topic 🙌🏻
Dude. Love what you're saying here. It's always amazing to take negative energy and turn it into positive energy by sharing love instead of hate. And I feel you on experiencing a lot of lows and challenging points in life. I like to try and take what I've learned through my personal experiences and share them in my videos as well. :)
Super well spoken as well. Great job @kenmelendez!

Hi, Ken, I follow your GOAL video and I found this video... you speak right to my heart. I'm not yet a Dtuber but I noticed someone got very low payout while someone has a big recognition and I was asking myself if I can handle the frustration ahead or not! Your video gives me the clues and really inspired me. Thank you so much I think I'll set a steemauto for you too although my voting power is not that big your content deserve all votes. I'm glad I found you 😀
@cicy I appreciate your kind words. Thanks for commenting. I encourage you to get on DTube and start posting ASAP
Really great subject.
That's actually what I do when I feel Steem jealousy. However, I never really thought about how powerful it is to do that. Indeed, you are turning the energy around. When we do things for others, we are rewarded by our brains with happy chemicals.
Your time is coming is SO true! I kept going and going, and finally I got somewhere. Just like that all of the sudden. I always encourage people to just share, share, share, share, share themselves because it's inevitable. Their work will get better. They will find their voice. It will resonate with somebody.
Resteemed, and I'm following you now.
@brightstar nice to meet you and thanks for the thoughtful comment. Sharing is caring as the saying goes. What are your plans for the rest of the week?

I'm preparing for my first interview for a series I'm starting on Steemit Visionaries. 🙂 How about yourself?
