Defining and Defending Reputation in Steemit

Many newbies would love to know what mean reputation on Steemit and whether it would really be a major and featured factor in Steemit. This questioning is very pertinent, as the question of reputation and the way it is determined today has been largely overlooked, often placed not in second, but perhaps in third, fourth or fifth place of importance in Steemit.

Today we only talk about Steem Power - SP. Power today is what define if you are someone here at Steemit. Reputation is of no importance to many whales, curators, people who have the "cash on hand" to vote for our posts. Power has become a protagonist in our ecosystem.

I fully understand that reputation today is not as important as it was at the time I joined the platform 2 years ago. Today it is very easy to build a reputation on Steemit with so many voting bots that with their high power make any newbie with a reputation of 25 reach 67 in reputation in a few weeks.

I believe that the reputation system at Steemit should be reformulated and I have read in some post moves in favor of this, which would be very beneficial for our community.

Reputation (for those who do not know) is that number right next to your Steemit name and it means your reputation in the middle of the community.

Reputation here on Steemit means that your content is of quality. The higher the reputation, the more quality, commitment and creativity your content has. But, it's not all the users who can raise your reputation. In order for this "quality stamp" to be granted only accounts / users of great influence (whales, curation projects) has this power to take your reputation to "heaven" (Upvote) ... or "hell" (Downvote).

Even today the reputation does not have so much prestige in the platform (the power has become the main protagonist in our ecosystem), the reputation is still, even with its "forgetting", the best "thermometer" to define the true authors, of the false authors. Reputation is what still defines which authors you should or should not follow, prestige or support their work on Steemit.

Reputation serves as a "manual" so that we can improve our posts every time, and we can always keep our "seal of quality". Power is something you can buy, not reputation. Reputation exists only one and it must be preserved, otherwise, even with your high power, you will not have respect from the community with a negative reputation.

With this post I hope to have remedied some doubts that novices could have about reputation here at Steemit. I did not make a "technical" post here, explaining how to calculate the reputation etc., but in a clear and objective way I tried to help and motivate newcomers who can join the platform to understand what is reputation, how to achieve it and how keep it.

As I said in previous paragraphs, power can be bought, reputation won. Power is something easily found and acquired, reputation is a hard to find, can not be bought and is unique.
