$10 Million Prize Pool or Scuzzy Scam Puddle?

in #steemit7 years ago

I won't pretend I'm savvy with the blockchain thing, but when someone shows up here trailing a bunch of brand new members whose sole participation in Steemit appears to be hyping this overblown announcement in the initial comments, my bullshit meter starts going crazy.

It's gonna be a smelly, smelly ride.

Many thanks to @contentjunkie for his post on what a shady mofo @matttrainer appears to be. I also did a bit of poking around, watched the video @matttrainor kept plugging in the comments at his "Intro" post, and have a bit to add to the picture. In light of the comments over there shifting from hype men talking up the "opportunity" to minnows posting about how many bitshares they ran out to buy in the aftermath of the webinar, I think it's important to get it out there.

Yes, yes it is

I posted this info in the comments there when I first saw his post, but it may be getting lost in the - um - enthusiasm so I'm reposting it here to hopefully reach a broader audience.

It's nice to be so super excited about big opportunities, but one should always read the fine print, especially the part where they let you know they can say whatever they want about success stories without ever having any obligation to show you a shred of evidence that they are true:

"ANY EXAMPLES WE HAVE PROVIDED SHOULD NOT BE INTERPRETED AS ANY GUARANTEE OF EARNINGS. WE DO NOT ASSERT THAT OUR PRODUCTS AND SERVICES REPRESENT A “GET RICH SCHEME.” UPON REQUEST, WE MAY ASSIST YOU IN THE VERIFICATION OF CLAIMS OF ACTUAL EARNINGS AND/OR EXAMPLES OF ACTUAL RESULTS ACHIEVED, THOUGH WE ARE UNDER NO OBLIGATION TO DO SO."

How convenient

The link he provides to his company site loads a video with two guys talking about the future of VR and it could be from a documentary on the future of VR for all the referencing of the company they do (none). Not only is there literally zero indication that these two dudes have any capacity to put into practice what they're spitballing, there's also really no indication of how they are affiliated with a company that apparently calls its home somewhere between the GNC and the CVS.

Well I'm not

I'm 99% sure the guy billed in the video as a "Cinema Technologist" is this guy who apparently hasn't had steady camera operator work in years. And it's not because he's doing big things - at least none you can find on Google.

Meanwhile "Futurist/VR Filmmaker," Maxim Jago turns out to be a motivational speaker/filmmaker with a "Metaphysics PhD on the nature of being" so... clearly an expert on getting a 10 million dollar game project up and running.

Neither of these two has anything about a VR venture on their websites, which to be fair are grossly outdated. Especially for guys who are about to bring about the next Great Leap Forward in gaming technology.

Cutting edge fellas

And then there's this guy who supposedly has millions to just dump into a prize pool, responding to every skeptic in the comments with a threat/promise to not let them play his game like a five year old who was just told his toys suck responding by saying, "Well you can't have them!". I mean, it would be hysterical if not for so many people jumping to put their money into this.

I really hope for their sake they get something out of it. I hope they all get rich. For me, I'm going with my gut and the evidence and sticking to my posts.

Buyer beware.
