Magical words of Steem
Eureka! I'm suddenly learning what special phrases carry magical powers on Steemit and I'm considering trying them out. It appears that my life, politics and religion are Steemit's ugly step-sisters and the fairy godmother is a beautiful white light gleaming with money, bit-coins, bots, votes, Steemy tokens, crazy technology and possibly herbal potions. The last thing people want to hear is me complaining about war, healthcare and my miserable existence... But these thoughts tend to sneak up on me in the middle of the night and rudely shout: blog this!
Last night I had a dream that I sat stroking my golden purse and the virtual beaming light of Satoshi Nakamoto popped out laughing his head off and granted me three wishes. I thought about all sorts of crazy things like porridge pots that fill up automatically and flying at will but settled on a few more sensible wishes in the end:
1. (This is a long-winded one) Let me be me, connected to meaningful, interesting, engaged people who get involved in fascinating discussions with me.
2. Let me speak my mind peacefully, comfortably, content in myself and with some kind of purpose (is that the same as 1?)
3. Let money stop being such a concern- a barrier, an opportunity, a goal - let money be irrelevant! (Is that slightly the same as 1&2? If so, can I get a refund and fly at will?)
Abracadabra!

Thanks Alan! Is that what I've got? I don't even know! You're the celebrity on here. I need a Steemit tutorial as I still don't get this site.
I only know a tiny bit more than you probably. You can't really predict what engagement a post is going to get, sometimes I think I've written a corker & it falls on stony ground!
I think there are two tracks to appeal to here. The first is the bots. That takes a while to learn, but it's things like tags, images, etc.
The second is producing creative work and attracting a community that will read and vote for you without a bot.
Hopefully most bots are set to make quality work a criteria, but communities are, so you probably want to appeal to them both. What a healthy community needs (IMO) is an base of good quality posts that stand the test of time and a peppering of fun or personal posts that keep us connected.
