Social Media's Role in Society

Media, it is one of the most influential sources of information thus far. It's reliability is usually undisputed, making it a very powerful centralized tool. Social media platforms such as YouTube have taken advantage of this by pushing their agenda and silencing other people’s via demonetization. We are living in a world where our most trusted news outlets consist of controlled and centralized organizations that put their voice first. As this is becoming more and more apparent, people are going to look for a new platform to spread information and content on. A place that truly believes in the first amendment, a place where the people’s voice always comes first, and a place that truly empowers no one but the people.

Fully decentralized social media platforms ,such as Steemit, are going to be the number one answer. They do not only allow people to post whatever they want (within legal parameters of course), but they allow the people to pick and choose what content is promoted and allowed to thrive within the community. The people’s voice will have never been so loud.

Cryptocurrencies & Their Place in All of This

Though some people may see cryptocurrencies having little to no potential, I see them being the future. Not only will social media platforms like Steemit be empowering the people, but these currencies will be doing so as well. Cryptocurrencies, such as Steem, that use blockchain are allowing people, for the first time ever, to use a currency without any government assistance. This is big, especially for countries such as Zimbabwe where economies are suffering from serious inflation and their currencies are nearly worthless. Cryptocurrencies can be the ultimate path to a world void of all authoritarianism.

Whether or not Steemit is going to become the new YouTube or Facebook has yet to be determined, but Steemit is definitely step in the right direction; a step into the future.
