Copyright contents on Steemit
I see some of you're having issue with copyright content on Steemit. I can understand how that can be annoying to some of you and I really hope that people aren't posting it on purpose.
For anyone who is posting copyright content, please post whole article (if possible) and post a link to original article at the bottom (As far as I know it's not a copyright issue if you're giving credit to original author).
If you end up earning ton of money from that content, make sure you give some of that earning to the original author (to save yourself from future headache). Thirty percent is what most people consider fair but contact original content owner to negotiate.
it can be an issue if you don't have the authors permission to publish the whole article. You'd be far better off using a few quotes fro the article adding your own thoughts and including a link to the original.
In all fairness, I don't think it's that big an issue since you're providing free traffic/exposure to their website. I'm not sure why would anyone have an issue.
If you go by paper, lot of things can be an issue but that's what happens on all social media. People copy/paste and share.
You will need some very strict moderation to watch every single thing that gets posted. Not something doable for any website (including reddit which is one of the biggest platform).
If someone is sharing a content that can be helpful to others (assuming they're providing source link), I don't see a reason why they shouldn't get up vote.
but if someone is reading the full article on your blog they have no need to view the original. yes it's difficult to police but it is still a breach of copywrite and the author of the content is well within their rights to ask you to remove it or take legal action.
But aside from any of that it's not good for steemit to be full of unoriginal material and seeing as we all have a vested interest in steemit doing well, it's best to avoid copying full works and putting your own voice to the topic with quotes and links anyway.
johnsin28? I had a question about copyrighting content before I post it to Steemit. Even though we don't normally need to copyright regular-sized articles before publishing them here on Steemit, would you still recommend that I obtained a copyright if I wanted to publish a 74-page article here on Steemit? I'm asking, because I'm seriously considering posting a 74-page article here on Steemit.
