Doing Hood Things With Ma Wife

It was a lovely Saturday afternoon, cool breeze and sunny.

My wife and I decided to take a long stroll throughout the streets of San Francisco. We documented our day and wanted to share our fun with the Steem community. San Francisco is such a beautiful city with friendly people. There is an abundance of history in San Francisco. We consider ourselves explorers, everyday we discover something new. Walk with us and meet some interesting people in this city we love. Our walk was a 7.2 mile circle of so many amazing places. So please, sit back, relax, and enjoy our adventures in San Francisco.

Starting Point: Nob Hill

From "Snob Hill" we head towards the Mission district of San Francisco. The mission is one of the many neighborhoods in San Francisco. This is where you are going to find some of the most amazing Mexican food in the city. For the last three weeks my wife and I went back to eating vegetarian and vegan foods. We have both been losing weight and feeling great. So today we decided to switch it up. Our first destination planned is the restaurant 'Gracias Madre'. If you are looking for amazing organic vegan Mexican food, Gracias Madre is the spot. One of the many great vegetarian options San Franciscans have available to them. "If you have the means, I highly recommend it" Ferris Bueller

Window Shopping In The Mission

After eating it was time to work off some of those calories. So we continued our adventures and walked in any direction to see where the day would take us. On our walk we ran into many people having mini garage sales outside of their apartments. They had all types of interesting items; fur coats, knives, tennis rackets, knives, furniture, and more knives. Nothing better than street shopping in San Francisco and getting great items at a cheap price. If you really need to save money people are always throwing their old items on the street. It's called "San Francisco Shopping". Hey, it is like the saying goes, "One man's garbage, is another man's treasure".

Next Up Is Dolores Park

During our walk we were able to run into Dolores park. This park has a special place in our hearts, many memories here and still making more. Dolores park is one of the best parks to hangout in. There is always so much activity going on. Bring blankets, a frisbee, cards, drinks and lay in the sun. Years ago, we used to play drunken dodge ball on the tennis courts every Wednesday night. You'll find Mission High School right across the street from Dolores Park. All the kids cut school and go hangout in the park. If you walk high up enough on the hill at Dolores Park you can see the San Francisco sky line on a clear day. One thing I can't complain about San Francisco are the spectacular views. Everyday it makes me feel like I'm on vacation.

I wasn't able to snap this picture myself, I found a "labeled for reuse" photo online

Time Lapsing Saturday Afternoon in Dolores Park, San Francisco

The Castro Has The Best Food and Hand Job's

The Castro is a colorful community within San Francisco. It has some of the best food in the city and even better brunch! Anything you get from here is going to be delicious. We were lucky enough, to run directly into the center of the Castro. Since we already ate lunch, we decided to stop at our favorite cookie spot, 'Hot Cookie'. We got a chocolate chip cookie and a toffee cookie. This full-filled our sweet-tooth needs for the moment, yum, but we had to continue our journey.

The Bricks In The Road

On our walk from the Castro we decided to go in a direction we haven't explored before. We ran into an interesting intersection in the road. There was a circular pattern of bricks laid out in the intersection. While taking pictures of the bricks a convenient store employee randomly began explaining what the bricks were. The bricks were laid to mark the shape and size of an underground cistern. A cistern is ancient technology designed to store large amounts of water. San Francisco adopted this technology after the 1906 earthquake and fire. They built the cisterns underneath the ground. At the time, they used horse's and carriage's and couldn't navigate around the rubble. Now fire departments could have easy access to water. The bricks marking the 170 cisterns can be found throughout the city. We no longer use the cisterns but they are interesting to notice and learn about.

Watermelon Juice and Core Water

After being fascinated with the brick history lesson we realized how thirsty we were. We had already been walking for miles. We stopped in the corner store right next to the circular bricks. They had fresh squeezed juices and the water we like. We picked up a watermelon juice and a Core water bottle. The watermelon juice was so refreshing. Some benefits of watermelon are lycopene for your heart, skin health, cancer prevention, better blood flow, aids in weight loss, anti-inflammatory, and provides kidney health. The bottled water 'Core' is one of the best bottled waters available. It is Ph balanced, fluoride free and it tastes light and amazing. For those of you who don't know, fluoride is added to most water supplies today. Coincidentally it was also used in rat poison and in Nazi Germany they used it to make the people complacent. Just a couple not so fun facts.

Our First Kava Experience at Kava Lounge SF

Now that we are hydrated again we continued our walk. Our feet are starting to get tired, but we are just enjoying the scenery. We run into an interesting looking place. After minutes of trying to figure out if it's a medical marijuana club or a cafe bar, we decide to walk inside and find out. I don't know what you would consider this business. It is a lounge that serves kava and kombucha only. Kava is a crop of the western pacific. Its roots are used to make a drink that causes relief of anxiety and provides a euphoric feeling. As soon as we walked in the guy behind the counter with the psychedelic spandex pants sold us. We had to try our first cup of kava. He warned us that we may not feel it our first time. I'll be honest, the drink isn't the best tasting, but it does give a mouth numbing feeling and euphoric high like we expected. It is great for relaxation. We also ordered homemade kombucha on tap. Their grapefruit kombucha was absolutely phenomenal. While we were tripping out on kava they had mind games for us to play. It also gave us a chance to recharge our cell phones and relax after all the walking our weight baring joints endured.

New Best Pizza In San Francisco

Chilling at the kava store for a while not only relaxed our bodies, it relaxed our stomachs. We were hungry again. We started walking until we ran into a pizza place we'd never seen before. My wife and I visit New York a lot. We are very particular on the pizza we eat. In New York they serve a type of slice called a "white slice". A white slice doesn't have any sauce, it is just mozzarella cheese and ricotta cheese. You can also add garlic and spinach to it. After living in San Francisco for ten years we still haven't been able to find a slice that compares to a New York white slice. Well today that all changes because 'Presidio Pizza Company' has the new best white slice in San Francisco. They call it the Bianca, Italian for white. We shared a slice and it was perfect, just what we needed to give us the energy to keep moving.

Fillmore Here We Come

After eating the best pizza in San Francisco we continued our journey. We made it all the way to the Fillmore. San Francisco’s Fillmore neighborhood has been a center of entertainment and cultural movements, not only for San Francisco, but for the whole of the U.S. This diverse neighborhood is the spawner of jazz, rock, and blues. Many well known names developed their careers here. From people like The Grateful Dead to Janis Joplin. If you are visiting San Francisco do not miss the Fillmore District. After setting off back on our walk we wanted to grab some more dessert, but the place we went to was closed. Very sad.

Time For Our Go To Spot

Now it is starting to get late, almost time to get back home. But, before we end our day we always have to spend some time in our favorite spot. If we see California street we know were are going in the right direction to get to Huntington Park. The four richest men in San Francisco lived on the same block as the Huntington Park back in the 1800's. The location is on top of Nob Hill and has a lot of Masonic history. You'll find the Masonic Center, Mason Street, a secret society called 'The Pacific Union Club', and fancy hotels. The rumor is that the rich didn't enjoy walking up the San Francisco hills, so they installed the trolly cars so they didn't have to walk. My wife and I love to head up here at the end of our days. The sound of the water fall, the dogs playing, we are at peace. We are able to relax and wined down from our day. When you live in the hustle and bustle of the city you need time to get back with nature and get some oxygen from the trees. It was a beautiful day and we are so grateful we get to end it in our spot.

SNAPCHAT STORY OF THE WHOLE DAY.

I hope you enjoyed our day as much as we did. As always if you like this post please up-vote and if you have anything you'd like to say please comment below

If we get some support for this post there will be many more to come. Like I said earlier, there is so much history in San Francisco and we'd love to share more of our experiences with you. Big thanks to the Steemit creators and community for allowing us to share.

Great post. Man i miss San Fran i lived off and on in a unit on Treasure Island from 2008 - 2012 i am actually still on the lease, lol. So much to do and the culture is wicked, never a boring day. I use to go to a bar on Sutter st called Aces was a great hangout. I remember being in that bar in 2010 when the Giants won the World Series it was crazy!!

Love Aces, my favorite New York bar. I'm originally from NY and moved to SF about 10 years ago. Great to see people who are familiar with the area.
