Of course, they need food to survive. However, this is more targeted towards people who have sufficient food, but lack a place to keep their little savings in and earn a decent interest.

The interest is what i'm mostly concerned of on the long term. It certainly looks appealing now.
Indeed it is. The interest rate of Steem is very very appealing, as well as the simplicity of the GUI. It truly offers an alternative to banking systems, as well as international transfer systems which charge a ridiculously high amount just to send a few hundred dollars, such as WU.
