Let's introduce myself !

Hi and welcome to my first post on Steemit! My name is Jesse and I am extremely thrilled to share my own thoughts and opinions with YOU. In the past I have written some opinion pieces which I posted to a personal blogspot page, but never with any tremendous success. It often made me feel like I was screaming into an abyss, as it was extremely difficult for my content to get any meaningful attention. Steemit is not like my personal blogspot. It is different. Platforms like Steemit are getting increasingly important in the age of new media and the fact that you are reading this proves my point.

Why is Steemit so important?

To young content creators like me, Steemit provides opportunities that few other platforms offer. For a start, the platform allows anyone to share their content. The audience is already there, whether your post gets the right amount of exposure is largely up to the quality of the content that the content creators provide. This feature of the Steemit platform is mutually beneficial, as quality content makes its way to audiences and content creators are rewarded for their work through the exposure and upvotes they get. We should be grateful for the stage that Steemit offers to media producers, especially to those who are just getting started. Steemit functions as social medium that promotes the production of quality content (or at least content that people want to see), rewards those who contribute to that body of content, they entice readers and viewers to partake in discussion and it tracks who produces which content. Note that these valuable features are not offered by all social media that are currently popular (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Reddit). It is impressive to me to see how a the use cases of this blockchain-powered platform and as a crypto enthusiast it is really cool to see that Steem’s positive use case.

Steemit's role in the age of new media

However, there are other reasons why Steemit is so important. We live in an age where there is a ubiquity of media products available to use. It can be hard for media content consumers to navigate our way through all the videos, articles, blogs, picture and whatever else we stumble upon during our journey on the Internet. As a student in the field of communication and media it is interesting to see Steemit emerged as a platform that guides media content consumers in this process, as it selects content that is potentially interesting to us and by verifying and rewarding content producers it can play a role in the prevention of spreading misinformation, as it can boost journalistic autonomy and accountability. I foresee a grand future for Steemit as a platform that is similar to Reddit, but better.

How will I use Steemit?> As for my use of the platform, I have decided to give Steemit a shot and use it as my primary platform for publishing the content I produce. Although I mostly produce content for recreational purposes, I would like to experiment with this platform and see if what I produce is actually worth an audience. This piece may seem a little bland, but I felt like I had to write some introductory piece before publishing whatever I felt like on this platform.
