Dota 2 : The First Game to pour out over $100 million US Dollars as tournament Winnings!
Defense of the Ancients 2 (a.k.a. DOTA 2) has made a remarkable run on E-Sports history pouring out over $100 million US Dollars as tournament winnings. It is also the first E-Sport to reach $100 million mark, it is definitely the leader of E-Sports all over the world.
How did the prize money gone that big?
The biggest tournament contribution of DOTA is The International, which currently hosted 6 The International events, with the recent one, The International 6 pouring over $22 million US Dollars as tournament price pool - was the biggest prize in E-Sports History. The Wings Gaming of China won the championship of the annual event which the world are aiming of. The International 6 was held in Seattle last August 2016 and right now, with The International 7 coming, prize pool is expected to be bigger than $22 million.
Smaller leagues (with $3,000,000 prize pool and below) includes :
- The Majors (Manila Major, Kiev Major, Boston Major, Shanghai and Frankfurt Major)
- ESL One (ESL Frankfurt, ESL, ESL Genting)
- The Summit
- Epicenter
- Starladder
they are also one of the major contributors of prizes which Dota 2 accumulated.
Other top games include :
- League of Legends (LOL)
- CS : Global Offensive
- Starcraft II
- Counter-Strike
The difference between CS: Global Offensive and Counter-Strike is that CS : Global Offensive is Steam owned game. Whiles Counter-Strike is an offline tournament game, no need for internet connection - LAN connection is needed.
