RE: My 1st Video About Steem To My 384,177 Youtube subscribers, LMK What You Think?

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

There is no down voting on Steemit, only flags! Please guys get this right! There is a very good reason there is not any down voting, which an example is the conversation I am seeing above on this tread. The designers of this platform thought this through. Down voting was determined to be very bad for social cohesion. The only thing available is UP voting and FLAGS, and flags are ONLY meant for violation of the rules, not for dislike of posts. Again there is a very real reason it is set up this way. If you dislike a post, just don't up vote!!

Do you know if there's a penalty for flaging posts that don't violate the rules? If not, I think that needs to change.

I agree. In general the whole flagging process needs

  1. accountability
  2. clear parameters

The current penalty (and only one available) is that the account that is abusing the flagging option is likely going to receive flags on their post until they abide by the flagging rules.

@tuck-fheman Thanks for the information. That penalty is wholly insufficient in my opinion. If someone flags my post when it shouldn't have been flagged, and my only option is to retaliate by falsely-flagging their post, I'm not going to flag their post out of fear of retaliation.

By "the only one available" do you mean there are no other options that would be possible to implement in the future? Or do you mean it's the only option available at this time.

It's the only option available at this time.

This is when you can enlist the help of a whale or two or three. There are bots that could also help until the flagging abuser gets the point. I'm not saying it's the best option, but currently it is the best option if they will not remove the flags.

Exactly! "flags are ONLY meant for violation of the rules"

Plagiarism and Spam would fall under "violation of rules" which flagging is intended to address.

How can flags be for violating the rules when there are no rules?

Flags are for abuse, which we judge for ourselves individually just as we judge value in upvotes.

Thanks so much for your post as we need to get this straight in out minds and abide by the rules.

Absolutely no problem. Glad to help. The platform is sorely missing in basic instruction and guide lines. I expect this will change soon.
