The truth is, what is shown on the trending page is not what is happening for 99% of the platforms users…. We are minnows but “WE CAN CHANGE THAT”

Here is how:

-DOWN VOTE any post in trading – starting from the first (the most money paying one). Believe me your no money paying vote is most valuable here. IT REDUCES the outrageous price THE MOST!!!!
After down voting any such post:
-Post a response with hashtag #steemitisnotacasino or link to this post
-UPVOTE any account/response that is honestly down voting the post, and has the any of the participation tags or link to this post - #steemitisnotacasino
-put you own response with a tag #steemitisnotacasino, #minnowsunited
#WECANCHANGETHAT so other members of the movement can vote for you.

Here is how and why such #minnowsunited protests work:

  • the most change one can do is in high paying posts – any vote up/or down increases/decreases the payout NON linearly (that is to say with increased impact)
-while down voting – taking power from whales AND also up vote similarly thinking individuals ,aka participants in the #steemitisnotacasino movement, you give more power to them….one tiny bit at a time.
  • putting your #steemitisnotacasino in your response makes it a target for other minnows of the movement to upvote….and makes you a slightly bigger minnow. So next time your voice counts for more.

Did as you said! You got my downvote!

Now how about asking people to look at content first and then making up their own mind?
I know thinking for yourself is hard for most people, but if we want this place to survive, we really need to ask them to try.

Downvotes can be seen in the dropdown list of votes on any topic. Imagine if you down vote some whale's niece or cousin or something because you are jealous of how much they made and they forever downvote you on every post you make. Bots are coming that will do just exactly that.

Flagging is for spam and abuse, not because you feel the reward is too high.

FYI the solution to this is actually to remove the whale's power. Push for per capita voting not per capital. The current system is ridiculous. Everyone's vote should have the same weight and the top voted people should get a capped reward. That's going to take programmers and discussions with the devs to fix though.

Here's a better slogan #shavethewhales

I do think voting down all overpriced post is the correct course of action. Why? Because even if it is a good post for each such post there 5 or probably 20 equally good ones that get a penny or nothing. As the name of the campaign states steemit is not (at least should not be) a casino to reward a random small number of post with huge amount and leave 95% of the posts with nothing.
The deep problem IMHO is that there is not enough curators with reasonable voting power to cover all the content. My solution for the curation is explained here, but before going to the solution I believe a nedd to realize a problem do exists hence this campaign.

James-Snow you are more about the money than about the platform. Steemit isn't just about Steem Dollars. But some people aren't seeing that and are just seeing $$$$$$ and thinking some people are getting too much while they are getting too little. But that kind of negative thinking doesn't improve Steem.

Steem doesn't grow when there are caps. It's true there might be a limit to how much money can be distributed but if this is about Steem Power and not money then it's about being a good curator. I will post more on this in the future but I think it's a good thing to have large payouts. It shows that Steemit can change people's lives.

Overpriced is your opinion. We are all aware a problem exists what you are asking for is just as unfair. @williambanks makes a more compelling and fairer argument on how to change things.

In all due respect, I agree with @williambanks. Your proposal bastardizes the downvote as its intended functionality to be a reflection of opinion of quality of the content or of personal preferences. To fix the voting algorithm, we depend on the developers of the Steem blockchain protocol to do that.

Your intentions are perhaps admirable to have a less lottery style voting reward algorithm, but the way to achieve it is not to abuse the meaning of the downvote feature. We should instead ask the developers to consider changing the algorithm.

"Flagging is for spam and abuse, not because you feel the reward is too high."

In theory it could be for both. Initially, as I remember it, there were two buttons, up and down. But I guess it was moved to the flag position because too many people were accidentally downvoting and complaining.

This is why companies don't tell everyone how much each employee is paid. Because there are dollar amounts next to every post, it opens the door for some people who can say a post is making too much money. These people in my opinion are missing the point of Steemit. Steemit isn't about the Steem Dollars, it's about Steem Power. It's about bringing crypto to the masses. It helps if the platform is fun because if it's not fun it's not as likely to catch on as anything more than just another job for people to make a buck.

I understand it's not fun for everyone. People put a lot of effort into posts and don't always get much Steem Dollars. Ideally, there will be many new ways to get Steem Dollars once the Steem Market is in place an you can always use money you earn from providing useful services to buy Steem Power.

But if Blogging is the New Mining then it's more like a casino. Bitcoin mining was like that. You could mine and mine and not be guaranteed to find a block.

Sensible points.

#steemitisnotacasino is a great hashtag! I'm trying to do as many positive post that net me a good amount of followers over time. Not looking to hit it big!

I made a post regarding the issue of fake/copied content and fake users here: HOW to SAVE steemit?
