Why Steemit Will Take Over Social Media

In order to understand why Steemit is so important for the future of social, we must first take a quick look at social media's past. In the mid 2000's Myspace ruled the social media World. They had a simple platform that encouraged peer to peer interactions. Around 2008 things started to change. Myspace had transformed into more of a music hub with little incentive for peer to peer interaction. In my opinion, their shift in focus away from peer to peer interaction is one of the main reasons why people switched to Facebook.

Coming off the heals of Myspace, Facebook took the world by storm. Mark Zuckerberg took the core elements of what made Myspace successful and improved upon them. He created a much simpler platform that had a strong emphasis on peer to peer interactions. He also got rid of overly complicated profile customization's and greatly improved the news feed. He added features such as events and applications. Even with all the improvements to social media that Facebook has made, I believe that they are missing some key elements that Steemit does natively.

Steemit is a social media platform that is beyond anything the world has ever seen. Steemit has elements from all the most popular social media websites. Its like Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, Youtube, and Twitch all on one platform. Also its decentralized and YOU get paid for curating your own content! Although getting paid for your own content is a huge game changer in the social media space I think Steemit’s greatest quality is its emphasis on peer to peer interaction. The point of social media is to encourage peer to peer interaction and if this element is missing then I don’t believe a social media website will survive in the long term. Steemit’s emphasis on peer to peer interaction is paramount to its growth. For example due to the way Steemit works your encouraged to comment or share an article which gives you a chance to get upvoted as well. This strongly encourages people to interact with each which in turn grows the website. Steemit has huge potential and I cant wait to see where it goes in the future.
