Proposal for steemit: category for posts up-voted by reputable curators

After a couple of months and more than 100 posts on steemit, analyzing how things go I have a suggestion for a possible enhancement.

The lifeblood of steemit, well the other lifeblood before steem that is, are the posts. So what I assume we all want is for more quality posts to be discovered and maybe rewarded. I think we can help good posts to see the light of day with an additional page view, besides trending, hot, new.

One of the issues with steemit is that, occasionally, there are a very large number of new articles, a number of them, let's be honest, fairly mediocre. So a good post can be buried in the sheer volume of new stuff and can get lost and we might miss the interesting stuff.

As the number of users increases, this will also increase. There is getting to be just too much info on the New page. Most people will scroll a bit and that’s it. In a few minutes a good post may be lost and go unnoticed. People who are not on steemit when something is posted will definitely miss it.

It may be noticed by someone but not a whale, so an up vote will not do much. This may lead to many active, reputable users not to bother up voting to much or searching for posts. I will not give either steem or visibility to a minnow. No point in searching the new page for interesting things as long as you have a good feed and are following people, especially with resteem existing.

Good new posters should be noticed more, so they get a chance of a following.

There are some admirable initiatives like curie or robinhoodwhale attempting to do something. But they are a few people, and only visible to those who read their selection posts. This is very useful, but is it enough? Maybe it can be complemented with more.

After that long preamble my suggestion is to have a category, besides new, trending, hot etc. A category of posts up voted by reputable curators. The category might be “Curated”. The order of posts on this page can be the order of writing, just like on the new page, but just filtered by at least one or a couple of votes from a more involved steemian. This is not an alternative to something like the hot page, but something complementary to the New page.

What is a reputable curator? It may depend. Maybe @ned and @dan can decide if they like the idea.

Steemians with a minimum amount of steem power, let’s say 500 or 1000 - people vith some vested interest in the site.

Steemians with a minimum number of followers 50/100/200 - people who have good posts and followers.

Steemians with a minimum number of posts 100/200 - people who are active on the platform.

Steemians with 55/60/65 reputation.

Or a combination of several or all of the above. The ideea is to get steemians who are engaged contributors to the site a chance to give good posts a bit of extra visibility.

This might encourage high reputation non-whales to do more curating, to bring quality posts to light. There is more to curating than rewards. Curation rewards are nice, but it is also rewarding to see a good post get attention and to help a good content creator get notices. A vote, beyond the steem, it is also saying hey, good job! To feel they accomplish something when they read through the new posts and up vote something of quality. And to bring more good writers to light.
