Whales should give more alms

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

Steemit is becoming a reflection of the unequal American society. An unequal society will grow less and less if the poors
realise that no matter how much effort they put into their work, it does not matter. So they will either put less effort of leave the platform.

If whales would take better care of their community, Steemit could become the most popular social network, they should be more generous with their users. If they resign to only upvote their rich friends and college buddies like @dollarvigilante and @rogerkver, then minnows will feel disenfranchised.

I give the example of the wonderfully generous @masteryoda.

He publishes weekly stats on Steemit usage and literally gives alms to all the people who comment on his blog post. That's about 50 cents per person, and this does not cost him anything. But it's a sign of appreciation for his followers.

Many minnows feel like they are putting a lot of effort into their blog posts, but they may not be as connected as others or not as old into the community. And they may soon quit, if they have not already. Poors are tired of being told that the dream can be achievable and that this society is just and fair. The real world is not, and Steemit isn't either.

Steemit will grow only if people will feel they can achieve a dream community, so whales should not be too stingy.

I was negatively surprised at reading that @dantheman always gets a down vote by @ned and does votes his own comments in order not to allow minnows to profit from following him. Is he already scared about the Pandora's box that he created and opened?

Why being stingy at this initial and crucial stage of steemit development and not spreading some wealth to the minions/minnows who are putting work and effort into the community, when the marginal cost of generosity is negligible?

I have to say that there are many whales that are incredibly generous. I will mention only a few: @stellabelle, @gavvet and @dragonslayer.

I wish more and more whales would find any way to redistribute wealth across the community. This is really in their own self interest.

Steemit should not be the replica of today's unequal society. It should be better or should not be.
