I offered to give away 2 SBD but no one wanted to have any of it (lessons learnt)
So last week, I decided to give away my first 2 SBD earned here on Steemit. I did this because I felt I have been blessed and it is only humane to pay it forward. So I created #thegraycontest and waited. It was like waiting for the sun to dawn. You have seen it happen many times and you’re very confident that it will this time. Unfortunately, this sun didn’t even shed the lightest ray of light,, meaning I didn’t get a single entry. So I spent a long time asking myself why it was so…
Is 2 SBD too small?
I guess one of the reasons many people enter contests is because they believe they can gain something valuable. The higher the price, as one would expect, the more the entries. Perhaps my prize money was too small. Well, I have decided to increase the prize money for the next one to 3 SBD. It probably isn't much of an increase but one can only give what he has.
Was I unclear in my description?
The post where I announced the contest was first a tale of how I earned my first 2 SBD. I guess if I had made it exclusively about the contest, perhaps moire people would have been drawn to it. However, I can’t help but wonder if people read my posts for only financial benefits.. I know I’ve still got a long way to go when it comes to writing but I always put in my best, even when commenting on other people’s posts. Perhaps my best isn't good enough; perhaps they don’t even care. Anyway, I have decided that the next announcement will come with a clear tittle indicating the financial benefit of the contest.
Maybe I wasn’t trusted to pay up….
For the contest, I was the only judge. Meaning, I alone got to decide who won and who didn’t. I understand if people have an issue with that - these things are very subjective. This could happen if I suddenly decided I didn’t want to give away the 2 SBD. I surely wasn’t going to do that but it is understandable if people have trust issues. This time, I have decided to enlist two judges. Of course, this would be people I know on Steemit. However, they will be sole judges without any interferences from me. I have also transferred 3 SBD to savings to ensure the money is ‘safe’.
The next contest
I announced the first one on Wednesday last week. I have decided to announce the next one this week’s Friday. I hope to have as many participants as possible. I love reading and writing and creating a platform that encourage these will give me so much joy and fulfilment. Do help make my dream come true.
Thanks for reading.
If you can, kindly check out my other post: I'm Gay, So What? (Sexual freedom and other stories) you might enjoy it
Hi there @iamthegray...
I spotted this post by chance (just happened to be going through my feed) and it sorta hit a chord - so I figured I would throw in my two cents.
If there's one thing I have learned in my short time here it's this:
Continue on your path and try not to get discouraged - write things you know about, and write from your own experiences...
Take it for whatever its worth and consider this - when I started I held a contest with a total prize pool of 75 STEEM and had 1 entry... Its not the financial incentive that attracts people to you - its you...
BTW - I'll watch for your next contest and try to throw you a promo to a few really great people who helped me along - and a re-steem...
Thanks a lot @drdave
Your comment is quite encouraging and insightful too.
I couldn't post the contest due to circumstances beyond my control, will do so tomorrow.
I'm doing my best to post guakity content, sometimes I just get downright lazy.
Thanks for stopping by

Welcome ☺
Nice post @majot
I agree with @yura81 , maybe you should base it on the story and not the quantity , you want to make it as inclusive as possible so if someone wants to draw a stickman getting some sbd maybe that is still a great story. Rules are good and more structured contests help attract specific types, but maybe we want everyone from everywhere to just share no limits.
Yeah, I agree with you on that.
Mind being a judge on the next one?
Yeah... I agree with you on that.
Will correct that in the next one.
Care to be one of the judges?
I would not mind being a judge, how many judges do you intend to have? Can DM any thoughts in steemit.chat username is the same or discord whichever suits you.
You can press edit , to correct comments and posts instead of posting twice
Okay
Registered on steemit chat but the entire platform looks funny. Mind sending me a message to help find you faster? My username is @iamthegray
I actually know how to edit comments... Just didn't know the first one went through. 😁
text of 400 words in English for me it is a too difficult task that I was afraid to take
Thanks for your feedback @yura81
I didn't know about that.
The next one will be better. Hope to see you around
Hey, don't get discouraged. You're doing great. I had a contest that nobody showed up for either. It's rough. For my part, I didn't want to win since you had already mentioned me and honestly, I would just give it back to you since I think you're the type of Steemian we need.
I don't think any of your concerns are the reason the contest didn't garner much attention. I think it simply has to do with the fact that it got lost in all the hoopla. You are still new and thus haven't built a huge following that will come with time. Just keep doing what you're doing. Use #contest as one of your tags.
Thanks @moeknows
I'm trying not to get discouraged and you've helped out big time. Thanks a lot for the support
