Open sourse Steemit client?

in #steemit10 years ago (edited)

A lot of people are using Steemit already. I think about 5k.
And they put a lot in network development.
Steemit web client is closed source development still. How can these people be sure that funds are safe?
Do developers of Steemit Inc are going to open the code for audit or that is community responsibility to create client which will be safe?

I wrote a console tool in python that you can use independent of steemit.com.
If I can find a good QT designer, I may add a GUI there eventually.

Oh yeah @xeroc! I know. I begin to test it. But I care about people

Good questions.
An open source client and a security audit of the web wallet code and blockchain features is standard practice in the crypto industry. That is how you would detect and prevent things like the DAO hack.

Being a Blogchain, it would be nice to have a version under IPFS. This way users can at least get immutable source code via a peer-to-peer network. This means that if a country tries to ban Steemit or a particular IPFS portal, users can take their hash to another portal and keep going. Even if countries don't ban it, users will now they have this as a backup just incase. IPFS offers improved architecture like local cashing of entire website. Still some websocket details to work out, but that is essentially it...

Here is an Archive of Cryptocurrency App building Code on Github for anyone creating a Steemit app
